Jeptha, a warrior and judge of Israel, is forced to make a terrible vow to God that he will sacrifice the first thing that comes out of his house if he is victorious in battle. When his daughter is the first to greet him upon his return, Jeptha is torn between his love for his child and his duty to God. John the Baptist, on the other hand, is a prophet who preaches repentance and prepares the way for the coming of Jesus Christ.
