Every book tells at least two stories -- the story between the covers and the story outside the covers. A Texas author tells the stories behind the thirty books he has written and some he has helped get published. The author also writes a weekly newspaper column on Texas books, owns a book store with a small publishing division, and chaired or co-chaired the West Texas Book Festival for seventeen years.
Just Happy to Be Here is a collection of more than one hundred stories, columns, essays, and poems by Glenn Dromgoole of Abilene, Texas. Some of the pieces are adapted from other books by the author; many of them have never been published in book form. The book is subtitled: Words to encourage, enlighten, entertain. It is a mix of pieces that might be encouraging and others that might elicit a smile or a chuckle. Pieces include The One-Minute Graduation Speech; 20 Sermons in 20 Minutes; I Could Have Been a Masseuse, But I Rubbed People the Wrong Way; and A Poem to the World. If there's an overriding theme here, it is this: Life is to be taken seriously, for sure, but not too seriously. I'm just happy to be here!
