  • - The memoir of a Belfast boy in the Australian Outback
    af Gordon Lindsay
    142,95 kr.

Sam Lindsay provides a unique take on life in Australia as seen through the eyes of a naive young Belfast boy in the 1880s and later. With limited education he struggles to learn about life and survival as a would-be swaggie in the Australian Outback only 20 years after the Burke and Wills expedition, a tragedy that made a huge impression on young Sam. Finding work wherever he can, Sam is in turn a grocer's assistant, cattle driver, hawker, manager of a herd of Afghan camels, politician, and driver in the Australian army, among other occupations. Sam has a prodigious memory, and he recalls the names of the people he meets throughout his travels, often adding a shrewd appraisal of their character as he recounts tales about them. Their descendants today, in Australia and elsewhere, may recognize their forebears in a decidedly new light. Whether Sam joins the army in the First World War out of commitment to the cause or as a solution to his financial problems we may never know, but he is well over age when he joins. He is posted to Egypt and has first-hand experience of the travails of war. He recounts his experiences with humour and philosophical acceptance. On his return from the war he tries politics, but leaves when disillusioned with the hypocrisy of politicians.Compiled probably in the late 1920s from notes he must have kept, this memoir tells of Sam's travels, encounters with all manner of people, hardships, and adventures as he assimilates all that he has learned and develops his ideas on the role of taxation in commerce and the importance of social justice.

Healing revival is a term used by many American Charismatics in reference to a Christian revival movement that began in June 1946 and continued through the 1950s. The period of revival was a significant influence on the modern charismatic movement The period of revivals was described by Christians fundamentalist as "the most extensive public display of miraculous power in modern history." Somes saw the entire healing revival as a hoax, and condemned the subsequent evangelical and charismatic movements as a cult. Divine healing is a tradition and belief that became increasingly associated with Evangelical Protestantism. The majority of American Christianity's fascination with divine healing played a significant role in the popularity and inter-denominational nature of the revival movement. Oral Roberts and William Branham are described as the two giants of the movement. William Branham, who died in a 1965 car accident, is widely regarded as the initiator and the pacesetter of the revival, and the movement's "unlikely leader. Roberts emerged as the most popular figure and left the most lasting legacy, including the university bearing his name. Other major figures of the revival were Jack Coe and later A. A. Allen. Many of these ministries shared their healing testimonies in The Voice of Healing, a periodical published by Gordon Lindsay, which created cohesion for the group in its nascent years. These articles tried to answered many questions in times of the UFO wave of the 50's: W HAT IS THE MYSTERY of the FIying Saucers? Are they some natural phenomena that can be explained? Or, are they a secret weapon of the U. S. Air Force or of Russia? How does the Air Force explain them? Above all, what does the Bible say -about them? Because the U. S. Air Force reluctantly admits that unexplained air craft is moving about in our skies, these articles provided an explanation because Christians had being told that people "from another planet have landed".
