Embracing Your Divinity - Instead Of Your Doubt is the second in the series Essays In Honour Of Our Evolutionary Potential, the first being Confronting Your Immortality and the third Laughing At The Universe Of Lies. This second volume focuses on the nature of the relationship between the individual human soul and its measure of divinity. Are we sons and daughters of god, striving to free ourselves from stupidity and sin? Can we be redeemed from this fallen world into a state of blessedness? Religions would insist that we can but only if we give ourselves over to the moral imperatives handed down by their prophets and messiahs as interpreted by the priestly castes. That the individual can find his/her own way back to the divine state of oneness with all creation without gently dogmatic guidance is anathema to these organisations. The esoteric teachings making their way through the underground streams necessary in the days of religious repression originate in the mystery schools of Ancient Greece and Egypt, surfacing from time to time in brotherhoods like the Rosicrucians and Masons and the paths known as Magick and Wicca. Modern Theosophy has helped illuminate these traditions with its voluminous writings, and Spiritualism has allowed one aspect of the Ancient teachings, that of uncensored communication between the planes, to be experienced by the common man, liberating him from clerical dependence. Suddenly what Uncle Harry and Aunt Edith had to say about heaven was on a level playing field with Bible tales like St. Paul knowing a man in Christ who was suddenly taken up into the third heaven and seeing things there of which he could not speak. In this book you can hear what I have seen in some of the heavens and am in no way abashed to speak of them. The paths illuminated by accepting one`s immortality are many, and each of them leads to some understanding of our personal share of divinity. Each of us has a kernel of divinity within us and as the teachings and experiences outlined here place their spotlights on that kernel it blooms to encompass more and more of our being, or what we think of as our being. We observe it growing and wonder where it might stop once our initial enthusiasm dissipates. The truth is it never stops growing, whether or not you water it with your devotion.

  • - A Short Critical (and Shamefully Incomplete) Appreciation of their Contributions to Canadian Literature

What was once an extract of my 'intellectual biography in bookland' "It's All About Me", Bowering and McFadden now stands proudly apart, its roller blades attached and ready for a run about town. This second expanded edition of 2019 gathers together all my critical work on these much loved and influential Canadian writers of the late twentieth and early twenty-first century. While falling well short of a complete critical analysis, these essays and interviews provide a starting point for future explorations. Edited and improved from their original journal publications in Books in Canada, Paragraph and Word, with a new introduction and four appendices. "Gordon Phinn has achieved a rare feat: he's brought the ivory tower of academia back to earth with a wonderfully rambling mind-bending cross-referencing, wild and witty, deftly scribed yet conversational, insightful and ultimately delightful peek inside the minds and works of two of Canada's most original best-loved literary wizards. Dive right in. The stream of Gordon's astute consciousness is clear, welcome and warm."- Stephen Roxborough, author, this wonderful perpetual beautiful and Ego To Earthschool.

  • - how criticism mirrors the self

"It's All About Me - how criticism mirrors the self", brings together all my critical essays to date, but for those already excerpted in "Bowering and McFadden". Something of an homage to the years when serious review essays were commisioned and paid for by reputable journals committed to extending the honourable art. But as I marshalled my long dormant doc files for this project, assuming rather blearily that the good days were gone, a resurgence of the form was spied on the horizon, composed by mainly American and mainly youngish women with social and cultural concerns, rather then purely literary ones, and I was, to put it mildly, pleased. We shall see, as digital time speeds up to the flash of near invisibility, if they have the stamina of a Joan Didion or Janet Malcolm. Will they slouch towards Bethlehem with the bit between their teeth or succumb to the lure of the easily adapted novel ? One watches and waits. So my farewell to all that becomes a warm welcome to the next wave. The form is ancient and endlessly adaptable, the space it gives for opinion and argument expands without effort, particularly if wit remains the tool of wisdom and rhetoric pauses for pitstops in beauty. When composing these research projects, which is what they amount to if you seriously take the plunge, I was always conscious of my contemporary inspiration, Anthony Lane of New Yorker fame. As I revised, these years later, I noticed a distinct rumble from the erupting direction of George Bowering, whose literary effusions retain an immaculate originality of thought and expression as they snuck in under the door and charmed me with their carefully carved impudence. And it would be churlish, even after all these years, not to bow and thank Olga Stein, whose editorial acumen as editor of Books in Canada pushed and pulled me at just the right junctures. For a writer, particularly one prone to praising his own opinions, there is nothing quite like an insightful editor. As I have moved, somewhat reluctantly, with the times, and am now a blogger rather than a reviewer, I thought it prudent to provide a few examples from my online presence. A careful reader will note the various mystical and metaphysical atttudes peppering my literary work have fully blossomed into a take-no-prisoners philosophical platform from which all rationalist and religionist assumptions are challenged and esoteric options provided. It's still all about me, but that me has expanded to include all differing others in the embrace of what some might call mystical mumbo-jumbo, but what I prefer to see as the brotherhood of all sentient beings busy waving their flags. Basically everything is alive and aching to be more so.

After encountering Maitreya and Jesus in the experiential expansion of consciousness described in "More Adventures In Eternity", I sought to become useful to these ascended masters by channeling the messages they felt humanity was primed for in the run-up to the fabled 2012 and the ascension process in general. Initially the messages were read over YouTube, reaching the world in the quickest fashion possible. But it was always my intention to assemble a printed version. In the long process of submitting the manuscript to various publishers, I continued with a few live channelings of Maitreya on YouTube, where he confronted some then contemporary issues, such as the swine flu epidemic, prophecies of alien landings, and the international fiscal crisis of 2008. These have been transcribed and added to the book in an appendix. As my respect for the ascended masters and their unwavering commitment to their younger brothers throughout the centuries was already established before the channeling experiment, wordofgord's customary irreverence is rarely visible. In this project I seek more to assist than entertain. Will this be the first of several volumes? At this point I am not sure and have not been given any indication. But on reexamining the texts herein I am convinced they contain much to ponder over as we help each other across the barriers our earlier prejudices and fears erected, for we are 'the dweller on the threshold', the threshold itself, and the one who so fervently desires to pass through.

  • - Living the Ascension

Confronting Your Immortality - living the ascension is the first volume is a series, Essays In Honour Of Our Evolutionary Potential, which explore the experience and significance of ascending into the light body whilst physically incarnate as a human being. As such it falls in line with that ancient tradition of esoteric knowledge and practice which has come down to us through many underground streams from the ancient cultures of Egypt, Greece and further into the mists of unrecorded history where the legends of Atlantis and Lemuria dwell. Briefly surfacing in various mystery schools throughout history before being suppressed or driven underground, it can be recognized in the various societies and brotherhoods such as Rosicrucian, Masonry, Magick and Theosophy. Today, with the modicum of religious and intellectual freedom pertaining throughout the democratic West, its esoteric and occult teachings can be freely exposed, taught and discussed without the charge of heresy hanging over the heads of its adherents. These essays and explorations take place in an atmosphere free of intellectual and spiritual repression, moving the reader beyond fear, doubt and anxiety and into the joy of new discovery. How does it feel to be a free being in an unlimited existence, with eternity to explore the many worlds of manifestation? How does it look from the summit of spiritual expression, with no ideology or dogma to blinker one's vision? These essays, solidly based in the personal experience of mystical and out-of-body states, explore that category-free consciousness in an irreverent and free-wheeling style from a level playing field rather than the heights of assumed accomplishment and pride. What in previous centuries was presumed occult and dangerous is now free and easy for all committed explorers. Confronting Your Immortality is a first step in lighting up that path.

  • - Deception, Outrage and Beyond

Laughing At The Universe Of Lies continues on from its predecessors, Confronting Your Immortality and Embracing Your Divinity, to complete the trilogy in honour of our evolutionary potential as individuals seeking the fulfillment of our spiritual potential amidst the detritus of lies, frauds, conspiracies and cover-ups. Does the individual on the path of inner attainment calmly detach from the corrupt public world, so invested in power and greed, to pursue their bliss in private? Does the enlightened one actually do anything to disturb the muddy waters of deception? Perhaps loving those ruthless and cunning perpetrators, the naughty children denying all charges, and awaiting their eventual maturation as the depredations of karma do their darndest to etch character into the squawking ego, is the only path? One which calls for the endless patience shown us by those who have already graduated this tempting system of ambition and desire, trading in their doubts and desperation for a double helping of divine love, that effortless embrace bending down to bless you as you reach to forgive?

Gordon Phinn has been writing all his adult life. Arriving in Canada from Scotland as a sixteen year old in 1968, his love of literature, ignited at Glasgow Academy, expanded with every passing year. An interest in the esoteric, occult and metaphysical fields also developed during the 1970's, when the likes of Jane Robert's channeling of Seth and the wondrous instances of human/angelic cooperation in Scotland's Findhorn Garden were first revealed. He experienced occasional psychic contacts with his deceased father which developed over the years until by the nineties his OBE's and lucid dreaming accelerated into overdrive, spilling over into the composition of Eternal Life And How To Enjoy It, the type of guided tour of the realms that hadn't been seen in many a decade. Published in 2004, this was followed in 2006 by More Adventures in Eternity, where the promise of many lives, the soul's multidimensionality and the enigma of the Monad/Higher Self was fully embraced. Now we have the final installment of the Afterlife trilogy, You are History: The Soul, The Higher Self, and our Share of Divinity, in which the endless energetic interactions of past/present/future lives with their source self/higher self/Monad is explored and assessed. Here you will find the mystery of our spirit's true nature and ultimate destination approached, explored and unfolded.Gordon Phinn continues his writing, exploring, teaching and psychic facilitations from his home base in Oakville, Ontario, Canada.
