The war between the states, the U.S. Civil War, was not supposed to last as long as it lasted. This book is about the epic naval battles and strategies that are studied and discussed even today. The South found itself in an uneven struggle against the industrial might of the North. The odds were stacked against the southern agrarian states. And with only half the population of the North, southerners were at a disadvantage, having only a fraction of the manpower of the federal Army. As the conflict erupted, the North boasted a fleet of warships. The South was severely lacking. It was the age of ironclad vessels, but there was a scarcity of iron ore in the south. The odds seemed insurmountable. "The Confederate Navy" thrusts you headlong into the war's naval confrontations. It's a gripping account that pays homage to the gallant men, women, and storied ironclads. It addresses the events that etched an indelible legacy upon the annals of our nation's history. It encapsulates the sacrifices, audacity, and resilience that defined the Confederate struggle.
I was in the U.S. Air Force from mid-1958 until mid-1962. These little stories are about a few capers and characters I encountered along the way. Suffice it to say that my buddies and I got into some comical situations. I even found some humor in the pain and heartbreak inflicted on me by the sergeants. Except for some amount of exaggeration as to my brilliance, the stories are true.
