The Defense of the Churches and Ministry of England is a book written by Henry Jacob, a Puritan minister, in the 17th century. The book is a defense of the Church of England and its ministry against the criticisms of the Puritan movement. Jacob argues that the Church of England is a true, apostolic church and that its ministry is ordained by God. He also defends the use of liturgy and the Book of Common Prayer in worship, and argues that the Church of England's hierarchy is necessary for maintaining order and discipline within the church. The book is an important historical document that sheds light on the theological debates of the era and the tensions between the Church of England and the Puritan movement.1599. This book contains two treatises against the reasons and objections of Francis Johnson and others of the separation commonly called Brownists, published especially for the benefit of those in these parts of the low countries. The book ""Humble Supplication for Toleration and Liberty to Enjoy and Observe the Ordinances of Christ Jesus in the Administration of His Churches in Lieu of Humane Constitutions"" is written by Jacob Henry. The book is a plea for religious tolerance and the freedom to practice Christianity according to the teachings of Christ, rather than being constrained by human-made laws and regulations. The author argues that the true essence of Christianity lies in the spiritual relationship between the individual and God, and that this should be the guiding principle in the administration of churches. The book is a passionate and persuasive argument for the rights of Christians to worship and practice their faith without interference from external forces. It is an important historical document that sheds light on the struggle for religious freedom in the past and continues to be relevant today.1609. This work is a plea to the right High and Mighty Prince James, by the grace of God, King of Great Brittany, France and Ireland, defender of the faith, etc. by his faithful servants, the disgraced ministers of the gospel with sundry others concurring in opinion and persuasion of religion with them, for a motion concerning the glory of Christ's kingdom, in that they wished for it to be lawful for each loyal and religious subject without prejudice to his life or liberty, not only to sigh at home in the case of public and private grievances. 1604. Framed and applied to four assertions wherein the foresaid purpose is contained being: It is necessary to reform the churches of England, their ministry and ceremonies; for the space of 200 years after Christ, the visible churches using government were not Diocesan churches, but ordinary congregations; scriptures of the New Testaments do contain and set forth an ordinary form of church government used then; and, the ordinary form of church government set forth in the New Testament should necessarily be kept by us, it is not changeable by men and therefore is only lawful.
