Gunter Lumer was an outstanding mathematician whose work has great influence on the research community in mathematical analysis and evolution equations. He was at the origin of the breath-taking development the theory of semigroups saw after the pioneering book of Hille and Phillips of 1957. This volume contains invited contributions presenting the state of the art of these topics and reflecting the broad interests of Gunter Lumer.
In particular, it develops a unified theory of anisotropic Besov and Bessel potential spaces on Euclidean corners, with infinite-dimensional Banach spaces as targets. It especially highlights the most important subclasses of Besov spaces, namely Slobodeckii and Hoelder spaces.
The series is devoted to the publication of monographs and high-level textbooks in mathematics, mathematical methods and their applications. Apart from covering important areas of current interest, a major aim is to make topics of an interdisciplinary nature accessible to the non-specialist. The works in this series are addressed to advanced students and researchers in mathematics and theoretical physics. In addition, it can serve as a guide for lectures and seminars on a graduate level. The series de Gruyter Studies in Mathematics was founded ca. 35 years ago by the late Professor Heinz Bauer and Professor Peter Gabriel with the aim to establish a series of monographs and textbooks of high standard, written by scholars with an international reputation presenting current fields of research in pure and applied mathematics. While the editorial board of the Studies has changed with the years, the aspirations of the Studies are unchanged. In times of rapid growth of mathematical knowledge carefully written monographs and textbooks written by experts are needed more than ever, not least to pave the way for the next generation of mathematicians. In this sense the editorial board and the publisher of the Studies are devoted to continue the Studies as a service to the mathematical community. Please submit any book proposals to Niels Jacob.
The second volume of this introduction into analysis deals with the integration theory of functions of one variable, the multidimensional differential calculus and the theory of curves and line integrals.
This volume deals with the theory of integration and the foundations of global analysis. It stresses a modern, clear construction that provides a well-structured, beautiful theory and equips readers with tools for further study in mathematics.
This distinguishes it from the theory of nonlinear contraction semigroups whose basis is a nonlinear version of the Hille Yosida theorem: the Crandall-Liggett theorem. Thus the theory of nonlinear contraction semigroups does not apply to systems, in general, since they do not allow for a maximum principle.
It is distinguished by its high level of presentation and its focus on the essential.'' (Zeitschrift fur Analysis und ihre Anwendung 18, No. Berger, review of the first German edition)"One advantage of this presentation is that the power of the abstract concepts are convincingly demonstrated using concrete applications.''
