In diesem Band aus der Frühzeit des Ersten Weltkriegs zeigt der Verfasser ausnahmsweise seine politische Seite und legt ein markantes Bekenntnis zum Patriotismus vor. Das Schlüsselwerk kann die Hintergründe der germanistischen Arbeiten seines Verfassers erklären helfen. Es enthält zahlreiche Anregungen und Vorschläge für eine deutschnationale Reform des Schulwesens, die sich interessanterweise in nicht geringer Mange in der NS-Schulreform von 1938 wiederfinden, die an maßgeblicher Stelle von Hermann Jantzens Sohn Walther Jantzen durchgesetzt wurde.
