Die Schul-und Exkursionsflora fur die Schweiz von BINZ (12. Auflage 1966, bearbeitet von BECHE- RER) ist in erster Linie als Taschenflora fur Exkursionen und fur den Unterricht gedacht und be- schrankt sich deshalb auf Bestimmungsschlussel und knappe morphologische Beschreibungen. Herr Dr. WALO KocH, Professor fur systematische Botanik und Pflanzensoziologie an der Eid- genossischen Technischen Hochschule (ETH) in Zurich, beabsichtigte deshalb schon vor vielen Jahren, eine neue Flora der Schweiz herauszugeben. Er war der beste Kenner unserer Flora; auf vielen unvergelichen Exkursionen hat er uns in die Vielfalt und die Probleme unserer Pflanzen- welt eingefuhrt. Als Vorarbeit zu seinem geplanten Werk sammelte er auf seinen Exkursionen zielstrebig umfangreiChes Herbarmaterial, das er auch mit groer Sorgfalt praparierte. Ein fruher Tod im Sommer 1956 verhinderte Prof. KocH, sein umfangreiches Wissen der Nachwelt zu ver- mitteln; aus seinem Nachla kamen sein Herbar und seine 118 Feldbucher mit den Fundorts- und Standortsangaben der gesammelten Pflanzen zu uns an die ETH. Auf Anregung von Herrn Prof. Dr. ERNST GAUMANN, Vorsteher des Instituts fur spezielle Botanik an der ETH, haben wir den Plan einerneuen Flora der Schweiz wieder aufgegriffen und 1957 mit der Arbeit begonnen. Wir danken Herrn Prof. GAUMANN fur seine Unters'tutzung und die guten Arbeitsmoglichkeiten; damit hat er wesentlich zum Gelingen des Werkes beigetragen, des- sen Vollendung er nicht mehr erlebt hat.
