PERIKOPER OG KIRKEÅR I OLDKIRKEN indeholder artikler, der hovedsa-geligt er skrevet i perioden 1987-91, mens det var til drøftelse, hvilken højmesseordning og hvilken perikopestruktur der skulle være i Den Danske Folkekirke. Bogens emne er oldkirkelige perikopeordninger, dvs. lister og bøger med de bibelske læsninger til gudstjenesterne i kirkeårets forløb. Og de to gennemgående spørgsmål i artiklerne er spørgsmålet om perikopestruk-tur (antal og rækkefølge af de bibelske læsninger i gudstjenesten) og spørgsmålet om principperne for brugen af gammeltestamentlige læs-ninger. Bogen indeholder en oversigtsartikel om de bibelske læsninger i de ori-entalske kirker og i den byzantinske kirke, og artikler der forsøger at gå i dybden på tre udvalgte områder, nemlig de oldkirkelige liturgier i Jerusa-lem, Konstantinopel og Rom. Desuden er der en bibliografi med nordisk litteratur om oldkirkelig liturgi. I de undersøgte oldkirkelige perikopeordninger fra Jerusalem, Konstan-tinopel og Rom var der ved søndagsgudstjenesterne normalt kun to læs-ninger, og de var begge fra Det Nye Testamente, en epistel og et evan-gelium. Læsninger fra Det Gamle Testamente blev fortrinsvis brugt ved hverdagsgudstjenester eller specielle gudstjenester.

Denne bog, ORDET og NADVEREN, er en samling af artikler og foredrag om dansk liturgi. De er alle skrevet eller holdt efter 1992, hvor Den Danske Folkekirke fik en ny gudstjenesteordning og en ny alterbog. Der er tale om opfølgende og opklarende artikler, som giver et historisk perspektiv på nogle centrale punkter i højmesseordningen: den indledende læsning fra Det Gamle Testamente, den nikænske trosbekendelse og den udvidede nadverliturgi. Desuden er der en artikel, der forsøger at give et overblik over hovedpunkter i det liturgiske arbejde, som førte frem til nyordningen i 1992.

I 1992 fik Den Danske Folkekirke en ny gudstjenesteordning med ny alterbog og ny ritualbog. Som sekretær for biskopperne i det forberedende og opfølgende arbejde med den nye gudstjenesteordning skrev Holger Villadsen nogle artikler og holdt en del foredrag, hvoraf nogle er samlet og genudgivet i denne bog om Folkekirkens gudstjenestereform 1992. Bogens artikler og foredrag er et bidrag til at belyse overvejelserne og intentionerne bag den nye gudstjenesteordning, samt processen der førte frem til resultatet, der nu har været i brug i de fleste af folkekirkens kirker i næsten 20 år.

Biskop Hans Bagger udgav i 1688 Forordnet Alterbog udi Danmark og Norge. Alterbogen indeholder alle de tekster, som præsten skal bruge ved gudstjenester og kirkelige handlinger. Til hver søndag og helligdag er der en kollekt, en epistel og et evangelium. Desuden er der kirkebønner og slutningskollekter samt ritualtekster til dåb, nadver, brudevielse og jordpåkastelse. Baggers alterbog har været grundlaget for alle de følgende danske alterbøger forud for Den Danske Alterbog i 1992, så det er en vigtig bog i dansk liturgihistorie. Hovedsagen i denne bog er en tekstudgave af alterbogen fra 1688. Til indledning er der en redegørelse for de forudgående danske alterbøger. Den første danske alterbog blev udgivet af biskop Peder Palladius i 1556, og denne alterbog blev optrykt med jævne mellemrum, indtil den blev afløst af Hans Baggers nye udgave af alterbogen i 1688. Forud for selve tekstudgaven er der en forholdsvis udførlig indledning til Baggers alterbog med fokus på forholdet til Danske Lov 1683, Kirkeritualet 1685 og den forudgående danske alterbogstradition. Bogen afsluttes med nogle indekser, herunder især et indeks over alterbogens bibelske læsninger.
