Follow the loves, triumphs, and heartbreaks of three intersecting lives in Ian Knox's poignant new novel, The Welcome Scream. In 1940s France, Pierre flies to England in an attempt to form a Free French Army and turn the tide of the war. On his way back to Paris, however, he is wounded by a bomb and, through a twist of fate, is believed to be dead. His pregnant wife must now raise their son, who Pierre never even knew he had, alone. That son, Peter, grows into a young man whose mother's death spurs him to try and forge a relationship with his father's family. While attempting to find his long-lost family, Peter meets a young Parisian woman who awakens something within him he never knew existed. Vowing to come back for her after he has taken care of family business, he forges on. Readers then meet Annie, Pierre's daughter from his later marriage. A nurse training in the French colony of Niger, West Africa, she must return home to care for her ailing father before it's too late. Through all the joy and pain, these three characters find a strength in each other that will change their lives forever.
Growing old is generally considered a problem by society. This book seeks to give a 'God-view' and shows how the reader can 'be' and 'do' ageing well. It takes an honest and positive look at many aspects of our later years, including a successful retirement, enjoying later life, keeping going as a Christian, helping others to find a real faith and being positive even in adversity.
