Side 1 concentrates on the Hebrides of Scotland, the islands of Scotland’s west coast, providing detailed coverage of Mull, Coll, Tiree, Rum, Skye (which is now connected to the mainland by a bridge), Uist, and Lewis. Ferry routes to the Isles are also included, of course. Gaelic is still commonly used on these islands, so we have included both English and Gaelic place names whenever practical. The second side of the sheet covers the southern islands and peninsulas of Islay, Jura, Knapdale, Kintyre, and Arran as well as the Glasgow/Edinburgh urban areas simply because they are there and Scotland isn’t all that large in area.

Spain is an ancient land full of historic sites dating from Roman times or the Moorish occupation. As a country, it divides naturally into northeastern Catalonia, northwestern Galicia, Central Toledo, and the Mediterranean coastal regions. This map is double-sided, with the portion closer to Portugal on one side and the Mediterranean coast from the French border to Granada on the other side.

The Balearic Islands in the western Mediterranean have been extremely popular travel destinations for centuries. Mallorca/Majorca and Ibiza have become favoured visits by cruise ships to these islands in recent years, but the warm climate has attracted visitors for a long time. Side 1 concentrates on the three major islands of Mallorca, Ibiza, and Menorca but includes the smaller islands of Formentera and Cabrera, along with an inset map showing the islands in relation to the Spanish mainland ports of Valencia and Barcelona. Side 2 focusses on cruising the entire western half of the Mediterranean, from Naples west to Gibraltar. Naturally, the Balearics end up right in the centre of the map, which also includes the islands of Corsica and Sardinia.

Ghent is one of the most historic cities in Europe. A city of canals, it became wealthy during the Middle Ages by controlling the production of cloth over several centuries. Ghent is not all that big so it's combined with a detailed map of Brussels, the nominal capital of Belgium and the location of the European Union HQ. Side 2 of the map is also a new venture for us; a detailed map of Flanders region from Liege to Lille and from south of Brussels to north of Antwerp

Coverage is from the railway station in the south to the university in the north and from the Parque del Oeste in the west to the bull fighting ring in the east. The reverse side is a detailed regional map for the Castilla La Mancha province to the south of Madrid, with Toledo, Albacete, Murcia, and Cordoba. The coastline of Canada’s British Columbia is long and varied. The best-known portion is the part just north and west of Vancouver, known as the Sunshine Coast (1:250.000). The rugged Coast Mountain Range makes road-building impractical for much of the interior, so communities such as Gibsons, Sechelt, and Powell River are joined together by Highway 101 and by ferries. Many Fiords take kayakers deep into pristine wilderness areas, and former logging roads are now commonly used for wilderness hikes. The famous Strait of Georgia, used by cruise ships to Alaska, cuts through the middle of the map, with the largely unpopulated and wild Bute Inlet leading TO Waddington Glacier and the vast Homathko Icefield. Side 2 of the map covers southwestern BC, including all of Vancouver Island and the southern interior as far as Nelson and north to 100 Mile House. Insets of downtown Vancouver and Victoria are included. British Columbia Southwest in scale 1:800.000.Legend Includes:Roads by classification, Rivers and Lakes, National Park, Airports, Points of Interests, Highways, Main Roads, Zoos, Fishing, and much more...

The American territories of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands are anomalies in the modern world, neither fish nor fowl, as the saying goes. Although the residents are American citizens, they have no representation in Congress and are not allowed to vote in national elections. The lesser-known British Virgin Islands are included on this double-sided map. The BVI is still a British colony, consisting of about 20 islands, capitaled in Road Town (inset included). Puerto Rico (1:190.000) is a large, rectangular island, capitaled by San Juan (inset included) and is a major cruise ship point of origin as well as being home to resort communities all over the main island. Ferries connect to outlying islands. The VI portion was purchased from Denmark in 1917 and retains a colonial European charm. There are three main islands – St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John – and the map includes inset maps of Charlotte Amalie, Cruz Bay, Christiansted, and Frederiksted. Each side of the map sheet includes a listing of top attractions. Ferry routes to the BVI are shown, as well as water connections between the islands. Virgin islands 1:85.000.Legend Includes:Roads by classification, Rivers and Lakes, National Park, Airports, Points of Interests, Highways, Main Roads, Zoos, Fishing, and much more...

The climbing season for Everest begins in May, just about the time that vaccinations against Covid should kick into high gear. Time to start planning that little jaunt you’ve always wanted to do! Seriously, this is a lovely double-sided map with two attractive covers, so can be displayed either as Everest or Himalaya. The Everest side covers the mountain itself, with base camps and accommodations clearly shown. There are actually several interesting trails one could explore and all are shown; only one leads to the summit. The reverse side shows the entire Himalaya ‘knot’ that forms the basis for so many mountain chains. The area of coverage includes all of Nepal and Sikkim, a significant portion of Bhutan, most of Tibet, and a bit of northern India. All roads and attractions are shown. The map includes a detailed inset map for Kathmandu and another for the valley region surrounding the city. There are now half a dozen access roads into Nepal, and all are shown. East-west travel is finally available with the completion of Hwy 1401.Legend Includes:Roads by classification, Rivers and Lakes, National Park, Airports, Points of Interests, Highways, Main Roads, Zoos, Fishing, and much more...

One of the world’s great travel adventures is sailing through the Panama Canal, which we did last year (see cover photo). Panama itself is a large enough country that the canal, which is visited annually by millions of passengers, cannot be shown in meaningful detail. So, whether one is on board one of the many cruise ships squeezing into the Miraflores Locks or are a visitor ashore watching, the canal is a great attraction. The map is double-sided, with central Panama (the part most visited) filling side one. Side two is divided in half along the central fold. A very detailed map of Panama City fills the left side, and the first-ever map of the canal itself fills the other. This is a marvelously portrayed rendition of the most important canal in the world. Even at this scale, the locks themselves are thin lines on the sheet, but they’re there. Scale 1:300.000

3rd edition 2017.Nova Scotia is one of the most historic provinces of Canada, having become British as a result of military conquest in the 1740s. Initially, the British distrusted the Acadian settlers and moved many of them to French settlements in Louisiana, which was then a huge area of land. Some of the Acadians stayed in the South, becoming known as ‘Cajuns’; others eventually found their way back north. The fortress of Louisburg, on Cape Breton, was state of the art for its time, but was seized by the British anyway and used throughout the American revolutionary war as a bastion of British strength. The fortress has been restored and is now a national monument. Luneburg, and Halifax are both very interesting cities to visit, and Peggy’s Cove is probably in more people’s photo albums than any place in North America, outside of Niagara Falls. This is an excellent map as well to portray Canada’s smallest province, Prince Edward Island, the ‘home’ of both Canadian confederation and of the famous Anne of Green Gables, the fictional heroine of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s novels. Scale 1:380.000

This map focuses on the portions of the country that have been re-opened for tourism, which means from the Mediterranean coastline south to the Aswan Dam. The portion further south remains closed for the moment, as is the border crossing with Sudan. We have also been forced to leave off the Great Sand Sea and the Western Desert portions for the same reason of unrest, as the border areas with Libya remain very unstable. However, we have provided a large inset map of Egypt, covering everything, in the area of desert. We have also added a listing of Egypt’s Top Attractions, which wasn’t hard to prepare, as Egypt is loaded with 5,000 years of temples, pyramids, and tombs. The other side of the sheet is a detailed map of Cairo, with an inset of the Giza Pyramid complex just to the west of Cairo, and another inset of the Cairo region showing all the known tombs west of the Nile River south to Helwan. The back cover is a schematic map of the rapid transit system of Cairo. There is a third inset, showing Alexandra and other associated urban areas along the coast. The map is printed on stone paper, which is waterproof, durable, and long-lasting. It is also biodegradable. Scale: Egypt 1:1 mio.- Cairo 1:12.500.

North of Norway exists one of the northernmost communities in the world, an archipelago of islands called Svalbard in Norwegian, and better known as Spitsbergen in English. Until now, it has only been available in map format from the Norwegian Arctic Institute, and then only with difficulty. Side one shows the various islands as an entity. There is only one town of any size in the islands, called Longyearbyen, although there is a more northerly town called Pyramiden and an isolated community on the west coast called Alesund. This is true high Arctic adventure travel; one does not come here unprepared! Most of the islands are uninhabited and largely ice-covered. Edge Island, for example, is a large nature reserve, and Prins Karl Forland is a national park. We have translated land area names into English and placed the Norwegian names in brackets, but have tried leaving the Norwegian names in place wherever possible to assist with local usage. This is one of those ‘off the beaten path’ type of travel destinations, such as appeal to Linblad Explorer ships. We actually include a list of Top Attractions! This is the most northerly land mass in the world, and Alesund is its most northerly urban area. The second side of the map is also uniquely interesting. It focuses on the far north of Norway, from Bodo all the way to Nordkapp and east to Norway’s border with Russia. Northernmost Sweden and Finland are included as well, but the map really emphasizes how large Norway is. Rail lines, and there are some, are shown with a red/white line going as far as Narvik (from Sweden) and Bodo (from Oslo). 1:800.000.

4th edition 2019. Finally, ITMB releases its long-awaited re-worked map of the wonderful South American city of Quito. The city is squeezed in between mountain ranges and, the entire city stretches from north (on the right-hand side of the map) to south. The ‘bottom’ of the map is, actually the eastern portion. A regional inset map clarifies the situation. The street network is clearly shown, along with the rapid line busway and the city’s Metro. The Old Town is perhaps the most interesting portion of the city for visitors and is on the left-hand portion of the map. The newer downtown is centred on La Carolina Park on the right-hand side of the map. This is where most of the shopping malls and hotels are located. The old airport is shown in part on the far right, but the new international airport is located far out of town. It is shown on the inset map. The reverse side of the sheet covers all of central Ecuador in a north-south format, from Ibarra in the north to Loja in the south and from Guayaquil in the west to the edge of the vast Amazon jungle. This side also includes inset maps of central Guayaquil and of Isla Santa Cruz. The road network is shown in excellent detail. The country has only one major north-south highway, the Pan-Americano and most of the population lives along the spine of the Andes Mountains. Most visitors combine a trip to Quito with a flight to the fascinating Galapagos Islands (see separate map), which can also be reached from Guayaquil. However, the World Heritage city of Cuenca, in the far south is a treat that should not be missed!

3rd edition 2019. The first side covers Bolivia from La Paz south to the Paraguayan border, with inset maps of Potosi and Santa Cruz in scale 1:390.000. The second side concentrates on Paraguay itself with inset maps of Asuncion, the Asuncion region, and northern Paraguay 1:1.000.000. Small bits of bordering countries also are included. Road connections within Paraguay have been shown to good advantage. Both countries, being land-locked, are somewhat isolated, making travel to them something more adventuresome than visits to neighbouring countries. However, both are hospitable, safe, and tourist-friendly.

This 5th edition of our London map has undergone an extensive revision, adding more hotels, pubs, and attractions. While it is not practical to show all such buildings on a map, we are hoping to achieve a representative sample. The ‘tube’ or underground lines have also been re-drawn and emphasized. Rail lines are shown from their appropriate rail station outwards. There is one north-south rail line through London, and an east-west line under construction, but we are leaving these off our map until the second line is completed. Also, the overground lines are an increasingly important method of travel around London, and these have been shown where appropriate. The big change on this map, and the reason for its new ISBN, is the enhanced and expanded map on the second side of South East England at 1:300,000 scale. This would be ideal for day trips out of London or for those driving. The western edge of the map is Bath and the northern extreme is either Northampton or Cambridge. The main roads in and out of London are shown, with motorways in blue, A roads in green (un-widened A roads in magenta) and thousands of B roads wend their way to lovely villages and secondary towns. Both sides of the map include our Top Attractions list. The map is printed on high density plastic paper, both for durability and for inclement weather.
