John Ramsay McCulloch (1789-1864) was a prominent Scottish political economist. This two-volume work, published in 1837, contains fascinating, detailed data about life in Great Britain and Ireland (excluding overseas colonies) at the close of the Georgian era. Volume 1 covers geography, population, agriculture and land use, and living standards.
