One of the biggest problems in life consists in learning how to live. After all we do not come with an owners manual or much in the way of professional training. If we learn to master the laws that govern life and prosperity, then life is easy and joyous, but if we never find the way, then life is hard and a perpetual struggle. It is like the problem of addition or subtraction for a child. When they master the techniques, all difficulty disappears, and the problem has vanished. All the problems of life, whether they be social, political, or religious, are only problems because of ignorance and wrong-living. As they are solved in the heart of each individual, they will be solved in the mass of humanity. As a race, we are at present is in the painful stage of "learning". We are confronted with the difficulties of our own ignorance. But as we learn to live rightly, learn to direct our efforts and use our functions and faculties by the light of wisdom, the sum of life will be correctly done, and its mastery will put an end to all the "problems of evil." To the wise, all such problems have ceased. Now it is your turn to mast the laws that govern the results we get and release your inner power and become King of your mind, body and circumstance.
James Allens classic AS A MAN THINKETH. The Bestselling Classic That Inspired "The Secret". AS A MAN THINKETH, Allen's most famous book, today is considered a classic self-help book. Its underlying premise is that noble thoughts make a noble person, while lowly thoughts make a miserable person. In "As a Man Thinketh," James Allen reveals how our thoughts determine reality. Whether or not we are conscious of it, our underlying beliefs shape our character, our health and appearance, our circumstances, and our destinies. Allen shows how we can master our thoughts to create the life we want, lest we drift through life unconscious of the inner forces that keep us mired in failure and frustration. "The Vision that you glorify in your mind, the Ideal that you enthrone in your heart-this you will build your life by, this you will become." This principle, which others have called THE SECRET or the LAW OF ATTRACTION, was clearly and convincingly stated for the first time in "As a Man Thinketh." As a being of Power, Intelligence, and Love, and the lord of his own thoughts, man holds the key to every situation, and contains within himself that transforming and regenerative agency by which he may make himself what he wills.
Foreword It cannot be said of this book that James Allen wrote it at any particular time or in any one year, for he was engaged in it over many years and those who have eyes to see and hearts to understand will find in its pages the spiritual history of his life. It was his own wish that The Divine Companion should be the last MS of his to be published. " It is the story of my soul," he said, " and should be read last of all my books, so that the student may understand and find my message in its pages. Therefore hold it back until you have published everything else." There remain now only his dramatic works and a few poems to be included in the next edition of Poems of Peace. That The Divine Companion will prove a companion indeed to thousands who have read his books in the past, I have no doubt. To read it is to hear again the voice of tne writer, and to study its message is to once again sit at his feet. He trod the Way himself - every bit of it, and he therefore speaks as one having authority. Lovers of James Allen's works will indeed be filled with joy to know that there is yet another book from his inspired pen, and will eagerly welcome The Divine Companion. LILY L. ALLEN

The Mastery of Destiny; Out From the Heart; Morning and Evening Thoughts; Man: King of Mind, Body and Circumstance; and The Way of Peace.
The perfect life is not the far away, impossible thing that men who are in darkness imagine it to be; it is supremely possible, and very near and real. Man remains a craving, weeping, sinning, repenting creature just so long as he wills to do so by clinging to those weak conditions; but when he wills to shake off his dark dreams and to rise, he arises and achieves. Contents: faith and courage; manliness and sincerity; energy and power; self control and happiness; simplicity and freedom; right thinking and repose; calmness and resource; insight and nobility; man the master; knowledge and victory.
When you enter a dark room, even one you know well, you are suddenly unsure of your movements, you cannot see objects around you or properly locate them, and you are liable to hurt yourself by coming into sudden contact with them. However, switch on the light and immediately all confusion disappears, every object can be seen, and the danger of being hurt vanishes. For the majority of people, life is like a dark room, and their frequent hurts-their disappointments, perplexities, sorrows and pains-are caused by sudden contact with principles which they do not see, and are therefore not prepared to deal with. But when the light of wisdom is introduced into the darkened understanding, confusion vanishes, difficulties are dissolved, all things are seen in their true place and proportion, and henceforth you walk open-eyed and unhurt, in the clear light of wise comprehension. I looked around upon the world, and saw that it was shadowed by sorrow and scorched by the fierce fires of suffering. And I looked for the cause. I looked around, but could not find it; I looked in books, but could not find it; I looked within, and found there both the cause and the self-made nature of that cause. I looked again, and deeper, and found the remedy. I found one Law, the Law of Love; one Life, the Life of adjustment to that Law; one Truth, the truth of a conquered mind and a quiet and obedient heart. And I dreamed of writing a book which should help men and women, whether rich or poor, learned or unlearned, worldly or unworldly, to find within themselves the source of all success, all happiness, all accomplishment, all truth. And the dream remained with me, and at last became substantial; and now I send it forth into the world on its mission of healing and blessedness, knowing that it cannot fail to reach the homes and hearts of those who are waiting and ready to receive it. James Allen.

James Allen (November 28, 1864-1912) was a British philosophical writer known for his inspirational books and poetry and as a pioneer of self-help movement. His best known work, As a Man Thinketh, has been mass produced since its publication in 1903. It has been a source of inspiration to motivational and self-help authors. In his own words: ...I dreamed of writing books which would help men and women, whether rich or poor, learned or unlearned, worldly or unworldly to find within themselves the source of all success, all happiness, accomplishment, all truth. And the dream remained with me, and at last became substantial; and now I send forth these books into the world on a mission of healing and blessedness, knowing that they cannot fail to reach the homes and hearts of those who are waiting and ready to receive them. I write for men, not for babes; for those who are eager to learn, and earnest to achieve; for those who will put away (for the world's good) a petty personal indulgence, a selfish desire, a mean thought, and live on as though it were not, sans craving and regret. -James Allen

Russell Herman Conwell (February 15, 1843 - December 6, 1925) was an American Baptist minister, orator, philanthropist, lawyer, and writer. He is best remembered as the founder and first president of Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as the Pastor of The Baptist Temple, and for his inspirational lecture Acres of Diamonds and James Allen, born in Leicester, England, into a working class family, Allen was the eldest of two brothers. His mother could neither read nor write while his father, William, was a factory knitter. In 1879, following a downturn in the textile trade of central England, Allen's father traveled alone to America to find work and establish a new home for the family
In "Eight Pillars of Prosperity," James Allen reveals exact qualities we must meditate upon in order to achieve lasting success. Prosperity rests on eight pillars: Energy, Economy, Integrity, System, Sympathy, Sincerity, Impartiality, and Self-reliance. "A business built up on the faultless practice of all these principles," Allen writes, "would be so firm and enduring as to be invincible. Nothing could injure it; nothing could undermine its prosperity, nothing could interrupt its success." This is a "Book of Virtues" for adults, distilling the wisdom of the ages in one compact volume. The moral virtues are the foundation and support of prosperity as they are the soul of greatness. They endure for ever, and all the works of man which endure are built upon them. Without them there is neither strength, stability, nor substantial reality, but only ephemeral dreams. To find moral principles is to have found prosperity, greatness, truth, and is therefore to be strong, valiant, joyful and free.
You are what you think. This simple, insightful and profound statement encapsulates James Allen's book As a Man Thinketh. Who was this inspiration and spiritual thought leader and just how did he devise such profound wisdom that has withstood the test of time?
If you cherish "As a Man Thinketh," then "Above Life's Turmoil" will not fail you. In this book, Allen dissects the human condition and like a master physician, offering solutions in his practical and truthful style. This book is beautiful. As with Allen's other works, you may find yourself revisiting the pages of this book often. Read it yourself and see why.
Men speak of "building up a business," and, indeed, a business is as much a building as is a brick house or a stone church, albeit the process of building is a mental one. Prosperity, like a house, is a roof over a man's head, affording him protection and comfort. A roof presupposes a support, and a support necessitates a foundation. The roof of prosperity, then, is supported by the following eight pillars which are cemented in a foundation of moral consistency: - 1. Energy 2. Economy 3. Integrity 4. System 5. Sympathy 6. Sincerity 7. Impartiality 8. Self-reliance A business built up on the faultless practice of all these principles would be so firm and enduring as to be invincible. Nothing could injure it; nothing could undermine its prosperity, nothing could interrupt its success, or bring it to the ground; but that success would be assured with incessant increase so long as the principles were adhered to.
