Do you consider yourself a powerful Christian? Do you have a good understanding of the Word of God, and are you able to pass on His wisdom to others? Are you a prayer warrior? Do you burst out of your prayer closet just looking for ways to defeat the enemy? Are you walking in your full God-given potential? If not, then why not? Romans 8:11 states that "If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you" (ESV).Jesus says in John 14:12 "whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do" (ESV). It sounds like we already have all the power we need, so what's the holdup? Dr. Jason Pfledderer has penned the perfect book to get you on track (or back on track) to tapping into the power that already resides within you. Through reading The Power of Christ (in You), you will learn who you are in Christ and what you are able to do with His power in you. Satan desires to distract and discourage you under the weight of the burdens of everyday life, but you can win in life as you learn from God's Word who you are as a believer in Christ, what you have because of Christ, the authority you possess in Christ, the power you have available to you from Christ, and the responsibility that you have as a believer in Christ. This book will help you become the mature Christian you were created by God to be.
Almost all Christians know the story of the prodigal son. The problem is that some might not remember it correctly.Jesus told this parable in order to communicate truth about our relationship with God the Father. Jesus was being questioned about why He spent much of His time hanging out with sinners. To answer this question, Jesus told a few parables, including the parable of the prodigal son and his return to the pursuing father. The truth is that in one sense we are all prodigal sons. We all fall short, and we all sin. Mankind is doomed to fall short. As this parable teaches us, however, that doesn't mean that we can't be saved. By reading this parable we learn important truth about the character of God the Father and His Son, Jesus, so we can learn how to return to our Father, too.
In John 15, the apostle John reported the Jesus said that He is the true vine. We are the branches that must stay attached to Christ in order to bear fruit in our lives. Now, that sounds easy; we are part of the same plant as Christ, and God the Father is our Gardener. But it's not as easy as that. If you know anything about gardening, you know that pruning, cutting a plant back, is necessary for it to grow in a productive way and bear fruit. God will cut everything out of our lives that will cause us to be unproductive or unfruitful. That's the pruning process for a Christian. We've all been through it, I'm pretty sure. Sometimes pruning is hard. Sometimes it's painful. It's not an enjoyable process, but because it is the work of God, it's always worth it.
Can someone discern any difference between you and the un-Christian-like people around you? I mean, if you are a Christian, then are Just Going Through the Motions with society or are you counter-cultural with your attitude and behaviors trying to stand out from the mainstream crowd? My hope is that you are atypical of the norm. After all, most people will agree that the world is growing ever colder and ever so sinful. Because of these truths, I believe it's time for we believers in Christ to quit Just Going Through the Motions and to start to imitate Christ's actions by seeking to stand out just as He did. For Jesus was counter-cultured in His ways in an effort not to fit in with this world. The goal of this book is to teach that we as believers don't have to just fit into "the system" and how we should think of this world around us. We live in an egotistical, narcissistic generation. Our culture is obsessed with self-esteem, self-love, self-fulfillment, and every other conceivable kind of selfish pursuit. People relentlessly promote themselves, praise themselves, and put their own agenda ahead of everyone and everything else around them. This is not the kind of person Jesus wants us to be. It's certainly not the example He set for us to follow. If you want to learn more about how to exactly do this (?), then turn the page!
God made man and woman, and He made them differently. A man does not always know how a woman thinks, and vice versa. But God did not believe it was good for man to be alone; He instructed us to be fruitful and multiply. Human sexuality is complex. In this book, I want to offer you instructions on how to view your own sexuality and how to deal with it not only in the context of the world, but specifically how to use it according to the instructions we are given in the Bible. This book is written to help you discern the qualities that you should be looking for when you look for a spouse. It is written for men and women alike, youth and senior citizens alike. Within these pages is advice about the characteristics you should look for when you are trying to find your lover.
As Christians, we are all on a spiritual journey. Sometimes, we are on a literal journey. When a pastor took to the Appalachian Trail as a pilgrimage, it changed his life and taught him lessons he never would have expected. On the trail, one can learn creative ways to express his praise to God, and discover that God not only communicates truth to us through his word but also through the wonders of his creation. Sometimes, God uses other people along the way to bless us and speak truth into our hearts. God communicates to us through many other ways than just His written word. A Tale From the Trail is a fictionalized account of the story of a pastor ministering along the Appalachian Trail, interspersed with spiritual stories taken from the Bible. The lessons learned on the trail, when read together with the word of God, teach us about how to be Christian pilgrims and how to grow in our journeys with God.
If you are a Christian, then I have no doubt that your life has significantly changed. You are dead to sin, and you are born again in Christ. That is a great thing, of course, but have you allowed it to change your life entirely? What about your family life? Since we know certain things to be true-that God was made man in the incarnation of Jesus Christ, when He came to earth and died for us to save us from our sins and was then resurrected-then we should allow these truths to affect the way we live. That includes the way in which we function within the family. The word of God teaches us not only what the family is but how we should behave: how we should treat our spouse, how we should treat parents and grandparents, extended family members, how to raise children, and what we ought to pass on to our kids. These are important things for any Christian to consider. Are you reflecting Christian attitudes in your home, living as God wants His children to live in a stable family unit? The Christian Family turns to the word of God to make sure that we know the best way to be husbands and wives, fathers and mothers, and brothers and sisters.
What or rather who do you see when you look in the mirror? Has your life turned out the way you envisioned it from your youth? How do you look at your relationship with yourself or God? Have you developed into the person whom God created you to be? Or have you been thinking primarily about your own vision of life and how you can get God to agree, conform, and fulfill it? While it's important to discover who you are, it's even more important to know that God is eagerly waiting for you to recognize the prophetic vision He has for your life. He sees everything from the beginning to the end-doesn't it make sense to discover His plans for you, to finally start doing things His way rather than your own? In this book author Jason Pfledderer begins by using the prophet Isaiah as an example of one whom God used to give insight to the Jewish people. He was an example of someone who recognized who he was and how God was using him. Isaiah explained in Isaiah 1:1 that he had a vision of God's plan for his life. Don't you want to discover the vision that God has for your life as well? Throughout this book you will be asked to evaluate your life as many snapshots in time. You will take the time to evaluate your life to discover if you have lived your life more for yourself than for God. If your examination ends with the knowledge that you've lived more for yourself, then it's time for a change. Let the wisdom in this book help you discover you, make the changes you've desired, and allow God to finish developing you into the person He created you to be-living a life that's pleasing to Him, all the while enjoying the journey yourself.
The "Our Father" is probably a very familiar prayer to most believers. In some ways, that's part of the problem with the prayer; we are so familiar with it that we have forgotten what the words mean. Our Father seeks to remind us of the meaning of the words of one of the most important prayers in scripture. This is the prayer that Jesus Himself taught us to pray. Whenever we pray, we are coming into the presence of God to worship Him and present our petitions to Him. We are coming to lay hold of the love of God, which is somehow already laid hold of us. We know in our hearts that we want the living God, we want to know Him, we want to love Him.We want to be truly able to call Him "Father".
Jesus is the center of our faith as Christians. There is so much that we know about Him, and so many prayers that we dedicate to Him. In this book, I have selected seven crucial parts of Jesus' life and ministry and discussed each of them in depth. These include His disciples, His ministry, His baptism, and much more. By reading about these events, we can learn about the impact Jesus' actions and teaching had on His first followers. We can also learn powerful lessons that will impact our lives today. Jesus, as fully God and fully Man, did so much in His time here on earth that it's important that we remember the specifics of how and why He did what He did. It's important that we remember that He was Israel's Messiah, and He is our Savior and Lord, and He accomplished everything required so that we could be reconciled to God.
Let me make a not-so-bold proclamation-God wants you to be involved in healthy relationships. Relationships, after all, are a key component to not only being a loving Christian, but also to being a good person. Most people understand that having a good relationship with people is best. We want to be able to work, play, and live with others in the best way possible. Healthy relationships lead us and others to the joy and productivity God desires for us to have. But what too many people fail to understand is that none of us can have a healthy relationship with others without first being healthy ourselves. This book is about applying Biblical principles to relationships so that we can live in healthy, loving, and strong relationships in all areas of our lives. We have the ability to widen and deepen our relationship with God as well as with others. This book will teach you what the Bible says are the emotional, spiritual, and physical components to healthy relationships, teaching you to be a better communicator and giving you ideas to making you a more authentic person. By learning to be authentic people, we can have authentic relationships, which in turn leads to better, healthier, more God-driven lives. Because it is my belief that healthy relationships are a stepping stone to God, success, and so much more, I have written From Your Heart to Your Head. Herein we are going to have some straight talk about what the Bible says are the emotional, spiritual, and physical components to healthy relationships.
Isaiah 52 contains important biblical prophecies. As we have the New Testament to provide us context to better understand these prophecies, we can read this chapter and understand what exactly Isaiah was prophesying. The chapter opens with the words, "Behold my servant." That servant that the verse is referring to is none other than the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. Isaiah wrote this song more than 700 years before the first coming of Christ and describes in detail the crucifixion. These verses demonstrate one of the powerful reasons why we believe in the inspiration of Scripture: this prophecy came true. Christ took our sins upon Himself and He provided an atonement for all the elect. In the course of this book, I am going to walk you through the prophecy described to us in Isaiah 52, discussing how it was fulfilled by Christ and what it means for us.
No one wants to come to the end of their life with nothing to show for it. We do not want to look back at our last 50 years and wonder what good came of it. We should desire to see that we have had a positive impact on others and see the value we have brought to the world. We should want to know that our life mattered-that what we did and who we were in life made a dramatic difference, adding value to the people who surrounded us throughout our years here on Earth. Each of us was created to leave a footprint throughout our journey called life. Who we are today is created by who we had around us yesterday, the day before that and the one before that. We are a collection of the influences we have had in our lives. Understanding this truth is why I believe I was meant to teach you about the importance of your influence from others and on others. We were created to leave this world a little different than how it was when we came into it. Follow me through a collection of information that will increase the level of influence you have in your life. Given the right amount of time, education and experience, you will realize the role you were meant to play. As a faithful follower of Christ, you are made to be a leader and an influencer. Today must be the day that you step forward and accept who God created you to be. The information in this book will help you succeed in doing all of this. For this reason and many more, I want to take a journey with you through the pages of Scripture. You will discover practical things that you can do each day to increase the level of influence you have on this world.
Before we begin with the topic of the great judgments of God, I would like to explain the views, the manner, and the reason this book is outlined. Any person who has read or dealt with eschatology (end-times study) knows just how diversely it can be taught, understood, and subsequently believed. It is the intention of this book to formulate as neutral a take on the happenings surrounding the judgments found within the pages of the Bible. It is not so much my objective to explain neither the expansive timeline of dispensationalism, nor the validity of a millennium view, as anyone who has come across either camp has undoubtedly found out how dogmatic they can be. We all come into prophetic studies with preconceived notions on how, in particular the book of Revelation, should be understood. In order to stay as neutral as possible, I needed to withdraw from each theological "camp" and at times, it might get a little confusing and unsightly. (Hey, don't blame me; I didn't come up with any of the four main eschatological views.) As we go along, I will add information on each camp when the need arises. I will not go into detail unless it is absolutely necessary. The goal of this book is not to compare and contrast the different opinions and rivalries within Christianity. There are already enough of those for you to read. The goal of this book instead is to describe the different judgments that come up in the Bible. The important issue shouldn't be, is the Judgment Seat of Christ before or after the millennium reign? Or is there even an actual, physical millennium? The important issue ought to be, and in fact is, where will each soul be at the end of days: on the side of Christ or standing opposed to Him?
So many people are in a position right now where they are attempting to rebuild their personal lives. That may include you. Your life could be at a turning point, and you are not sure which direction God is taking you. You may be coming out of a season where things have fallen apart, and it is time to rebuild. There has been trouble in your personal life (marriage) or maybe your professional life (business). Or perhaps it could be that your spiritual life has taken a few hits (setbacks) causing you to question what is happening. Now you are in a position where you need to redirect and rebuild in this season of your life. Perhaps this is a season where you are beginning to walk in a position of leadership and you are in need of refinement. You may be stepping into a new position in ministry leadership. Then again, it may be that the Lord has you moving into a field of business where God desires you to develop solid Biblical principles. Whatever the case may be, I believe you will find gems of truth buried within this book. I believe this because this book is going to focus closely on the rich and practical instruction of the Book of Nehemiah. No matter what your need may be, recognize that the instruction herein is going to help you despite your current situation or season. Understand that I am going to be with you, and we will trek this journey together. Let's begin.
In the book of Revelation, we are told of seven churches that each failed for a different reason. The advice regarding these churches is not only prophetic, but offers us as Christians warnings to avoid certain failings that can lead us away from following Christ well. That's what I want to discuss in this book: The Seven Churches of Revelation. Although the seven letters in Revelation are tailored to each of the churches named by the Apostle John, these churches and their failings can represent all churches and all Christians. The instruction given to these churches' congregations, therefore, is valuable to all Christian congregations today.
At ten years old, Angie my daughter understood architecture and structure support better than most entry level construction workers I hired. I'm not sure if it was a gift she had or if she had been around my construction sites too much, all I knew is that she just got architecture. Hearing about the town's sand castle contest at Silver Lake, Angie, conned her way into a family day. Angie quickly dove into her research headfirst. Knowing that she and I were going to enter the contest, my little girl set to work on her research. I remember holding my ten-year-old daughter's hand with my left hand and my wife's with my right. We were standing behind the photographer who was taking pictures for the Gazette, the local newspaper. After snapping a few pictures of my daughter, the reporter turns to her mother and I and asked, "What do you think about the fact that your daughter will be the first face this town sees tomorrow when they open their paper?" What no one at that moment knew was that God was about to use our family to teach a very valuable lesson. The saddest part would be that Angie would be the one who suffered the most because of it. She would indeed get her picture in the paper that next morning, we all would, yet it would have nothing to do with sandcastles or prizes.
The purpose of this book is to discern the qualities that make a good leader. If you want to be a good leader, this book is for you; it's also for those who want to be able to discern good leaders in their churches, communities, and even their political parties. The focus of this book is a little-known character from the Bible who appears only in the book of Proverbs: King Lemuel. He was a person born with privilege, with position, and with power. That's an extremely dangerous combination, unless you live by principle. His mother knew that, and so his mother taught him the qualities that she believed he needed to embody to be a good leader. This book recounts those qualities and expands on them so that you might consider how to adopt them into your life. Do you want to be a leader? Do you want to follow good leaders? If so, this is the book for you.
As a faithful follower of Christ and a man who wants everyone everywhere to know the glory of God and be saved - I want you to shine. I want you to shine brighter with the good news of Jesus Christ and how He's changed you. I want you to shine more brightly than you have every shone in your life. And I'm going to use a post-resurrection experience to accomplish this task. I want to do this in order to lead you on a path to spiritual renewal in your life. Throughout this book, I am chiefly going to use the post-resurrection experiences of one disciple. His name is Simon Peter. The reason I am going to use Simon Peter, later referred to as Peter, is because fifty days after Jesus rose from the dead, this man stood in Jerusalem and preached the most powerful message he had ever preached in his life and 3,000 people got saved. The Bible says that the power is in the gospel, and when someone speaks its truth, there is power that is coming from that person's voice. Just remember, the Holy Spirit is the one who regenerates people. He was at work in all those who heard the gospel that day. I know exactly what this is like, because I too have had the privilege of displaying His power, have you? It was the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit that captivated and convicted the hearts and minds of those people in Jerusalem that day. So much so that they knew they needed to do something different - they needed to change.
We Americans have it pretty good. We have the freedom to choose really whatever we want, as long as we don't get reckless. What I am suggesting throughout this book is that we all take the time to choose to invest in ourselves; to build up the temple our loving Creator so selflessly provided us, to build ourselves in tune with what He wants us to do. Our bodies are the temples that God has given us to worship in. Therefore, I declare that now is the perfect time to invest in these temples of ours. To receive the messages of God that build. To take advantage of this great tool, because it is the greatest one we will ever use. Our time and opportunity on this earth, with these bodies, is short and fleeting. So build them up as your Creator would like and take full advantage of the joys of possessing them. Take advantage of this life. Build yourself up to be the kind of person that you were meant to be. Today is the day.
If you are a Christian, then you know God. You know that You are His creation, and if you have repented of your sins and trusted Christ as Savior, you are His child. As such, God wants to have an intimate relationship with you. But that relationship takes work and effort on your part. You have to keep dedicating yourself to knowing and maintaining a close relationship with God in each of the Persons of the Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. You should desire to have an intimate relationship with God. But developing that relationship involves knowing God on a deeper level. My objective in this book is to help you come closer to the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, so that you feel connected to Him.
The Bible is full of testimonies whose sole purpose is to guide its readers to put faith in Jesus. In this book, I have collected a number of testimonies from ex-offenders and current prisoners. These testimonies about Christ bear an important purpose: to establish Jesus as the Messiah, lead people to repentance, and guide individuals towards a saving faith in Him. It doesn't matter how many sins you have committed. These testimonies are here to teach you to reach out to Christ and choose salvation. The Lord is calling you away from sin and towards His righteousness. You need only to stop and listen. It doesn't matter if you are in prison, on the streets, or anywhere else. You too can stop and hear His calling. This book contains the testimonies, the personal life stories, of men whose lives have been changed by the work of Christ in their hearts. My testimony (and those of many others) about Christ carries with it an important purpose. Its purpose is to provide you with evidence that Jesus is the Savior who changes men's lives. I will share Jesus' message of salvation which leads men to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 20:21) who alone can save, giving men eternal life. Reading these testimonies will elicit a response. See yourself in these stories and understand that these men are saved. Your sins can be blotted away just like theirs. You too can have your name placed in the Book of Life.
hips of your life. Placing your trust in Jesus as your Savior is a huge turning point in life, but it does not mean that suffering and trials are over. Becoming a Christian starts a journey; the Christian journey begins the moment you are born again and lasts until the day you die. Some people think, "I made my decision. Jesus is my Savior." However, when you look at their lives, you do not see any change even though they claim to be Christians. If that is the case, then you can be very sure that they were not truly regenerated by the Holy Spirit. The Bible says that the Christian is a "new creation." That means that there will be change in a person who has been regenerated by the Holy Spirit. This book's purpose is to help God's people understand and stick with the Christian journey. You are saved by faith alone, but the Christian journey doesn't stop when you're saved-it's just the beginning.
As we step forward into our technological future, it seems as if far too many people have stepped away from the God that caused the United States of America to become so great. However, continuing along our current trajectory can mean only one thing: America is doomed! That is, unless the people repent. America is destined to see destruction because the culture has rejected Christian values. We see this in many areas: the widespread acceptance of the murder of the unborn, the epidemic of addiction to pornography, the rapidly growing number of people who reject their God-given gender, and many more choices that are radically opposed to God's revealed will. What America needs is revival, a genuine turning from sinful self-centered living opposed to God, to belief in the forgiveness Jesus died to provide and then living life in obedience to Jesus' commands.
There are some people who are so bound in life by toxic people and toxic spirits that all they can do is look down. Does this sentence sound familiar? Does it sound like you or someone you may know? Are you bound in anyway whatsoever? This passage from Dr. Pfledderer's new book, Toxicity: Avoid It; Eliminate It refers to the woman with the spirit of infirmity in Luke 13:11 who was "disabled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up" (HCSB). That may not be your particular infirmity, but . . . are you being manipulated, or are you manipulative? Are you being abused, or are you an abuser? Here's one we hear about in church on a regular basis-The Spirit of Offense. Are you easily offended, or are you one who regularly steps on other people's toes with your words, attitude, or actions? Which of these toxins has attached itself to you? In this book you will find the various descriptions of demonic spirits such as Jezebel and Leviathan, how they can attach themselves to you, how to walk in total freedom every day, and most importantly, how to set boundaries not only for yourself but also others.
Much like a ball rolling down a hill, your actions in life carry momentum. So much so that over time, your body will go on autopilot and you will carry out actions in your life without taking the time to recognize what you are doing. Without even realizing it, you will walk blindly through your entire day, reacting to the stimuli around you and relying on your trained behavior. Sometimes there's nothing wrong with this. However, if you are the kind of person whose morals, actions, and thoughts are contrary to the society you live in, then your life, solitude, and even freedom might be seriously jeopardized. If you contemplate your life then realize that you are not happy with the way you react or respond to the stimuli of life, then this book should certainly assist you. Breaking the Criminal Cycle is precisely what it says it is. It is a book whose sole objective is to help you change your results in life by helping you change the way you think. Breaking your criminal cycle is done through education, planning, and networking. These things, coupled with a adopting a morally-driven life, will change your life for the better.
The vision God has given to you for your life is calling out to you... are you willing to answer that call? What Abraham received from God was an incredible promise revealed to him by God; the promise was sealed in a covenant that God made with him personally. Sure it may not have been a personal mission statement but it was one that had redemption as its core principle. Now the LORD said to Abram, "Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." (Genesis 12:1-3, ESV) God gave Abram a vision of the great future that was ahead of him. Abraham knew what God was able and willing to do. As I read this verse, I see that there are three things that this vision required Abram to do. 1.He had to be willing to leave where he was... "go from your country."2.He had to be willing to leave those with whom he lived... "from...your kindred."3.He had to be willing to go someplace he had never been... "to the land I will show you." True God-given vision will always require something of you. That is what vision is all about. What God required of Abram may be the same thing that He is requiring of you. Are you willing to burst forth and do it?
Why are you here? No, I am not asking what law you broke; that really doesn't matter anymore, at least not to me. I'm asking why are you here in prison; what are you doing here today, right now, to change? Are you just waiting out your sentence watching the days, months, and years of your life slip by so you can one day rejoin a society that you won't even recognize? Or are you devoted to making a change within yourself? Is it a plan of yours to commit to altering who you are so that you never again find yourself back inside these prison walls, razor wire, and sliding steel doors? Do you have a productive plan for your release? Or will you, like so many others, hope for the best and deal with what comes? Now let me ask you some really important questions: Is Jesus Christ involved in your plans? Have you contemplated whether He has allowed you to be here, and if so, what His reasons are? The odds are that if you were doing things which are contrary to God's law-and face the facts: you knew they were because everyone has sinned-He had a hand in sitting you down. This is okay, though. Jesus didn't put you behind bars just to punish you. He wants to change you. He is hoping to teach you. He teaches us in so many ways, through people, circumstances, His word, His Spirit, parables and yes even prison walls.
