Life can be gloomy, and this is off-set by bright colour in the home, office, workplace, and in the world generally. This book merges theory with practice and may contribute to the arts industry in some modest way by describing the quest to make colourful art. The Daubs projects may also help the general debate of what art is, and who an artist is. It is my privilege to provide an account of the Daubs, (so far), and I hope that you will be able to take from it some encouragement in respect of your own art projects. 'The brighter the colour the brighter the mood' drives the story.

I must be clear of what i am saying in this book about my adopted city, Manchester, where my two children were born, and call home - this sport, food and clothing crazy place, this Labour stronghold, are ideals to be found. Ideals beyond politics, beyond the immediate issues emblazoned on the flat screen TV, and it is this: though the rain keeps falling and Oxford Road buses keep running, time itself waits for no one! But art can help you see the beyond all that jazz. Manchester, this old roman garrison site, this ever expanding multi-faith modern city, the place of my children's birth, our house, our football team, a mesh of miseries and majestic moments is a place to be, a place to love. At the University of Manchester I trained for social work in the mid-1980s. But this city is a school for life, uni or no uni. I call this volume 'Manchester My Home'.I ended vol. II, Wembley to Manchester, frustrated, because I was not an artist despite selling over 120 paintings since 1990 in my self-styled career. I had to admit that I had failed to make a regular and reliable living at this dicey trade. A truth that I could not ignore, but, I could try to modify that truth. This book is part of that effort.

A drive Timbuktu was discussed as we watched sport TV. We bantered about the city of gold in light hearted fashion. Was this pub talk? Another friend, Gus Alusi, was trying to raise funds for FragileX. Gus was the driving force behind this scary venture.Something in the air revealed this was no idle chitter- chatter. Mike and I then said that we'd team up and drive together to Timbuktu - and fly hack again. Liam said he'd drive along with his twinner, Eamon, and their brother Seamus. Matthew bought us a round of drinks and teased us that we were as nuts as the salted ones he generously gave away in saucers on his successful bar. We were all in jokey mood, but we also knew that many a truth was said in jest.

Here is a feast for any reader who wants to know more about art and artists. I liken this book to a good meal because it is full of flavour packed with interesting tastes. I started out Fleetwood and arrived in Wembley, paintbrush in hand. I ask the question, what animates you and me? If you know what animates you then you have a better chance of being the real you! I hope that you find my story helps you being you!I know the world needs art and artists to make it. Information about the artist from the 'horses mouth' is needed if the artist is true and if art has been made. The words of others are about them, their agendas. I describe my childhood and then chart a journey through 45 countries. I ask basic questions such as what right does anyone have to try to make art? I answer that. I know that trying to make art is humbling. This book assumes the artist is not in control, but the arts project itself is mainly calling the shots. Like, as if you allow the project to live, it somehow multiplies miraculously of its own accord.I hope that you like fish, Skate in particular.
