John Brown, Jr. was born on October 3, 1847 on the Banks of Greenhorn Creek, Huerfano County, Colorado. The Brown family crossed the plains to Salt Lake City, UT, reaching there July 4, 1849. On September 1, 1849 they arrived at Sutter's Fort, CA. They eventually arrived in San Bernardino in 1852. In 1857 they had a home at 6th and D Street. He taught school, he was a lawyer and he helped in the organization of the Pioneer Society and served as secretary until his death on August 3, 1932. He is buried in the Pioneer Cemetery.
