The six 'sherds' contained here - whether fragments of a novel, or short stories, or what you will - cover a good deal of ground, from a highly apocryphal tale of an errant young Jesus to a tattooist's caper in Polynesia, stopping off in Renaissance Venice and England at the time of Queen Elizabeth I (with the Royal personage herself making a revealing appearance). These disparate pieces are united by the eternal pursuits of love, desire and the quest for a higher power, all wrapped up in the author's highly individual prose style, which contrives to be at once cynical and Olympian. 'From the stables and pastures of Andrew Motion, the late Max Harris, David K. Wong, and Sid Stebel, comes the author, so shall ye read.' - John Lawson

Nick Willard may be three years her junior but he has pined for Annie Kurtz since they were both prep school students. After 9/11, however, Annie joins the Marines, eventually making a split-second decision her superiors never wanted her to make and leaving her to wrestle with whether she should have followed orders or her conscience. After her return from a combat deployment to Afghanistan, Nick, now a successful journalist, must grapple with his own conscience as he uncovers the reasons for the changes to the schoolgirl he has long deified. Together, Nick and Annie explore the tensions between love and friendship, even those between morality and law, as they come of age amid the psychological traumas that result when war makers sweep reality under a rug of ridiculous details.

These early Christian leaders set the pattern of faith and practice still evident in the Church today. The spirit and impact of that heritage are presented to the reader unfamiliar with the actual writings of these Fathers of the early Church. The author carefully avoids technical and controversial elements that are of interest only to scholars. Historical matters are featured especially in regard to the teachings on the sacraments and the ministry. This emphasis upon the writings results in a concise, yet comprehensive pattern of the Fathers'' major contribution to the life and teachings in the early Church. For theological students, ministers, and Christian laymen, this study of the Apostolic Fathers offers a compact introduction to the early foundation and consequent development of Christian beliefs. It illuminates the common faith and heritage that have united Christians throughout the ages.John Lawson taught Church History, Historical Theology, Wesleyan History, and Wesleyan Theology at Emory University''s Candler School of Theology for twenty-one years. His other books include ''Introduction to Christian Doctrine'' and ''Wesley Hymns as a Guide to Scriptural Teaching.''

Finding True Freedom Behind BarsJohn Lawson's fighting skills and fearless reputation made him a man to be respected in the nightclubs of Manchester, Liverpool and Edinburgh. Leading a team of ex-soldiers and riding with a biker gang, he graduated to working for the Maltese Mafia running the sex industry in London's Soho. Returning to Scotland he trained as a bodyguard working for the rich and famous and soon became embroiled in a world of kidnap, violence and extortion as an enforcer for gangsters. Even the law couldn't tame him as his pride and arrogance extended to the courtroom where he was convicted for the third time and sent down for five years. It was in that high security prison where a profound encounter changed the direction of his life.A remarkable true story capturing the life of one man's escape from his past as he found true freedom behind bars.'Read it, and believe that there is always hope.' - Anne Perry, New York Times Bestselling author'If A Wicked Man is a book I can easily relate to, the love of money and a cold heart can drive violent men like us to take by force what we feel soceity owes us. Brutally honest, deadly serious and yet strangely funny at times. A compelling story of a wicked and violent man... with an unexpected twist that will leave you challenged.' - Rocco Morelli'A truly powerful account of a life changed.' -Major General Tim Cross, CBE

Is the history of the early Church the story of a movement away from the religion of the New Testament into Hellenic speculation, institutionalism, and bare moralism? Many present issues are affected by the judgment made upon this matter, which the author seeks to illuminate in his Cambridge Dissertation. There is in St. Irenaeus a doctrine of Creation and Revelation by The Two Hands of God, and likewise Recapitulation, and exposition of the Saving Work of Christ. The claim is here advanced that of these doctrines the former is an expression of the Hebraic conception of the Living God, who is transcendent yet immediately active in Creation and Revelation. The latter is thoroughly Pauline, and is a statement of the Classic theology of the Atonement. Together with his necessary emphasis upon the Church and Episcopate, Irenaeus has preserved the Gospel of real redemption by personal faith in Christ.
