Unser Blick geht südwärts auf die weite, breite Haide. Einzelne Häuser sind hier verstreut, andere liegen dort beisammen. Wie einsam ist es auf Sylt! Am Abend, als ich ankam, und ein Rauschen, halb des Meeres, halb des Windes, auf dem sanften Rasenboden aber keines Menschen Tritt gehört ward, während mich das Geheimniß der Dunkelheit und des Ungekannten umgab: da hatte ich die Empfindung, als könne man hier ein neues Leben voll schweigender Glückseligkeit beginnen.
