Coaching the quarterback in any offense takes much work. This position has more pressure than any other spot on the field. He must perform under pressure and have a significant enough grasp of all the concepts to adjust. To help with this, we have created this QB Manual. The book will feature the full RPO game, passing game, and all other aspects we want from our quarterback for the first half of the manual. The rest of this book contains drills we use in the Gun T Offense. Each drill has the following: Coaching Points: ●Common Mistakes●Pictures and Descriptions of the Drill●How the drill is implemented and translated into a game situation While running drills is essential, understanding WHY a drill helps win games is even more critical. Ensure your players understand each drill's purpose and how it will directly translate to the games. The Gun T Offense is designed to adapt to the quarterback each season. While we have run this offense for eight seasons, we have used seven different quarterbacks, which required us to get used to adjusting to our players. We will work through a few sections in the front portion of this book to help with suggestions on how to adjust. We have also worked to adjust to running multiple formations. This has helped our offense run the ball against much larger and faster defenses each season, which has helped our QB as we can now lessen the pressure on him and get him in more "QB-friendly" situations. The second section of this book is all our reads. We have tried to be as detailed as possible but are limited to one book as we can adjust multiple passes. Our entire goal is to have our QB read one defensive player. The final section is our drill section. We hope the offense becomes more effective as you go through these drills.
This is the 5th book we have added into our Gun T System. Each year we must adapt to keep up with the defense. All systems must have base concepts they work to master and protect. And the Gun T System is the same way, be great at the base and build concepts to protect it. I developed this system while at Southside Batesville, a 4A school in Arkansas from 2016-2019. Ran it one season at Searcy, AR a 6A school and returned in 2021 to Southside. In 2022, I took the head football position again at Southside. Each stop has had a different QB, and different athletes and the system will always center around the talent the school provides. Each school and year has talent, but it varies often at the high school level. It has been my goal to work to create a system that has answers for each group. This season we were much different than in 2022. The Gun T System is now run in all 50 states as well as in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and South America. It is run at the professional, collegiate, high school and youth levels.
The idea of this book is to show how using words that speak to only one player, gives the offense unlimited sets. These are just a sampling of what our offense can get into if desired. While an offense more than likely won't use each formation in every game, the ability to be multiple in sets will cause a defense to spend much of their practice time working on alignment and allow the offense to run a select set of plays. Run few plays well - and dress them up with formations. This book focuses on unbalanced looks or non-traditional sets. However, we want to keep five eligible players at all times. So, we work on stressing the defense to align correctly and account for all our potential skill players. As you go through this book, think about how you will use formations in your offensive structure to give your athletes an advantage. It could be a +1 (where the offense has one more player than the defense). It could be an advantage in the passing game with a better match up or a rub type concept. If could be creating great angles for blocks.Whatever it is, there needs to be a purpose. This book shows all unbalanced formations and ways that we use any formation possible to gain an advantage. When a coach hears "unbalanced" they often think a set that is only designed to run, but this is not the goal in our offense. We want to have the ability to keep five eligible players and throw the ball if the defense does not respect the look.
The goal for the book is to give an overview of what we look for in our wide receivers. Personnel adjustments, drills, tips and more. This book will be filled with drills that we use in the Gun T Offense. Each drill has the following: Coaching PointsCommon MistakesPictures and Descriptions of the drillHow the drill is used in a game This first part of this book is our base alignment, motions and "automatics" we build into the Gun T Offense. While much of the back end of the book can be used for any offense, the first few sections will be a quick review of our offensive structure. The book also goes through our major routes and route concepts we teach. The goal for us is to be able to adjust each season to our personnel. Like it or not, often the receiver position is directly affected by the quarterback spot also. This will affect how many of these concepts we use each season. In short, do not feel you must use ALL these concepts or even drills each season, or ONLY these concepts or drills. Adjust to what you have.

This book is the Youth Version, and it is meant to be a guide to the 34 SWARM system we use. However, I think it will be something all defensive systems can use, as it will break down how to organize a system and practice. I am hopeful that this provides some new knowledge, or even just reminds you of some tips and tricks to improve as a defensive coach.Defensive football is becoming more and more difficult to teach as the rules seem slanted to the other side of the ball, and often the culture of a program must be solid for the best athletes to want to play on the defensive side of the ball. I hope to give you some help in the X's and O's and in the organizational side, but don't forget the number one goal of every defensive coordinator should be getting the players to SWARM to the ball and play hard. Try not to over complicate the defense and focus on getting great effort. The book covers: Organization of the defensePersonnel ChoicesAlignmentCoveragesDrillsBlitz RulesPractice SchedulesAnd more...
A book geared toward high school football coaches, especially those aspiring to be head coaches. Details include topics head coaches deal with from booster clubs, off the field issues, player and assistant coach management, creating a vision and culture for your program, and how to interview for a head position. This book will go through most of the items that coaches become aware of only when they become a head high school football coach.
This is version 4.0 of the Gun T RPO system. This system was developed this system while at Southside Batesville, a 4A school in Arkansas from 2016-2019. This season we were much different than in 2021.The Gun T RPO system is the best of 3 worlds: The Wing-T offensive system has been around for many years. The best part of the Wing-T is the run game that utilizes angles and takes advantage of the defensive alignment by creating them. The Wing-T is also known for its "series" based offense, which has multiple plays that look the same in the backfield action. The RPO system has taken football by storm over the last couple of decades. To be able to place defenders in "conflict" with the run/pass option game gives the offense a numbers advantage at all times. This system is also great because while it seems the quarterback must make a decision on each play, it also "shrinks" his world by having him read only one or two defenders. The Power-Spread game is gaining steam throughout every level of football. To be in the shotgun, but still have a downhill running game is deadly and difficult to defend. Utilizing tight ends and H-backs has become "new" again in football. The reality is this system has been around for awhile, just not in the shotgun. When combined into the Gun T RPO system, these worlds at first seem at odds with one another. However, after a deeper dig, these offenses are all concept based that build in answers to handle any defense that may show up on a given day. This entire offense is based on answering the "If-Then" question that must be answered. A good defense will have multiple problems it presents to the offense and your system must have built in answers. Hopefully, through reading some of this material it may provide answers."Coach Simpson shows how you can evolve your system to fit your personnel. Too often coaches will as Coach Simpson put it "try to pound the square peg in the round hole." Coach's system is one of the best I have seen in my 30 years of coaching, Gun-T 2.0 is an evolution of the system that shows the versatility to adapt to the ever changing kids we see at the high school level." - Matt Bartley "As a first year head coach and a first time offensive play caller, I don't know where we would have been without the material that coach Simpson has available. We went from 4-6 to 7-4, to the third round of the postseason, and earned the second best record in school history. The program hadn't been to, nor won a playoff game since 2015. Thank you coach Simpson." -Mike Granato, Head Football Coach, West Orange High School, Florida
