This research work is a historical-theological analysis on the reasons and causes of church schism among the Chins in Myanmar. The schism started in 1930s and become worse since 1978. It is estimated that there are already more than 70 denominations and sects among the Chins even before the celebration of Centennial Jubilee of the arrival of the Gospel in the Chin Land, which was held in Haka in 1999. It is sad to see the way a divisive denominationalism plays such an important role among the churches and occupies the hearts of the people. Five main possible facts have been pointed out which caused schism in Chin Christianity, such as hlimsangism (a charismatic movement), evangelical movements and fundamentalism, politico-economic factors, leadership role and socio-cultural reason.

This volume reflects the journey of a team from Myanmar and India listening and learning from each other. At a fundamental level, the book will trigger a rethinking of Mission in Myanmar in the context of re-imposed military rule.

The purpose of my book is ¿to describe and explain how the Reformed tradition was introduced, understood and developed in the Reformed churches among the Chin Christians during the years 1938-1984. I selected two Reformed churches to consider, namely, the Independent Church of Burma (ICB), and the Presbyterian Church of Burma (PCB), which are the earliest Reformed churches out of more than 15 different churches under the Reformed umbrella in Burma today. The reason I focus this period is that the first Reformed church (ICB) was founded in 1938, and 1984 was an important milestone and a transitional date for these two Reformed churches, in which new church structure or organization was set up.
