Mariamne is a tragedy written by Laughton Osborn in 1873. It is the third in a series of plays that explore Jewish and Biblical history. The play follows the story of Mariamne, the wife of King Herod of Judea. Mariamne is a proud and strong-willed woman who challenges Herod's authority and refuses to be subservient to him. Herod becomes increasingly jealous and paranoid, and eventually accuses Mariamne of adultery and has her executed. The play explores themes of power, jealousy, and the struggle for control in relationships. It also offers a glimpse into the political and social climate of Judea during the time of Herod.
