This chronicle of life along the Current and Jacks Fork rivers in the Missouri Ozarks has been called "required reading for everyone interested in the future of America." First published in 1958, it remains unsurpassed as an example of one man's love for the land and rivers around him and of a way of life all too much in danger of being lost to us.The rivers described in "Stars Upstream" were designated by Congress in 1964 as the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, creating America's first national river. Granting of national park status has changed the area in many ways--the river system is now heavily used for recreational purposes--yet the concerns presented by Hall about the dangers of commercialism, exploitation, and pollution are still very much with us. "Stars Upstream" has played an invaluable role in promoting wise use of these rivers and should be read by everyone interested in preserving America's streams and wildlands as a national heritage.

The Evolution of Consciousness is a philosophical and scientific treatise written by Leonard Hall in 1901. The book explores the development of human consciousness from its earliest stages to its current state, drawing on insights from psychology, biology, and philosophy. Hall argues that consciousness is not a fixed entity but rather a dynamic and evolving process that has been shaped by various factors over time. He traces the evolution of consciousness through different stages, starting with the primitive consciousness of early humans and moving through the emergence of language, culture, and civilization. The book also delves into the role of the unconscious mind in shaping consciousness, as well as the relationship between consciousness and the physical brain. Hall draws on the work of prominent thinkers such as Charles Darwin, Sigmund Freud, and William James to support his arguments.Overall, The Evolution of Consciousness is a thought-provoking and insightful exploration of one of the most fundamental aspects of human existence. It is a must-read for anyone interested in the history and development of human consciousness. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Folks, this is a True Story, Love Story like no others. It is a Diary I have been keeping on a friend of mine that dates back to June 20, 1925, that's when I met him. Even then I knew he was unlike the other boys that we played with. Good looking, nicely built, good personality, a Sweet Person with it and a smart dresser. Smart in his profession and a handyman but in his private life he was a complete disaster. He was a perfectionist. He wanted everything to be just so - so even in death. Although he tried, it didn't turn out that way. It started early. His sister hated him and on several occasions tried to kill him. He hated her too. Although he didn't try to kill her he did try to hurt her. All through his life most of his troubles were self-inflicted. He married a Girl he didn't love to spite the one he did love.As you read this you will meet his Girlfriends such as, Miss Young Thing, Miss New Thing, Miss 45, Miss 20, Miss 58, Miss 60, Miss 75 and Miss 48 among others. Miss 48 is the reason he got implants put in his Private Parts. As she says, "Get 'them' pins and the fun begins." She is also the reason he almost committed suicide on a number of occasions. He also had a Daughter that he loved but he hated her too. His mother once said, "My children are going to put me in an early grave," and they did, she was only 93. In the 83 years of his life everything happened to him. At the time I met him we lived in town. WE were neighbors for twenty years then I moved to a Farm. In his later years he came to see me sometimes on a daily basis. Nearly everytime he came he brought me a story. All this was serious business to him. Some of the things he told me I could not believe yet it was happening right before my eyes. I helped him all I could. I was with him until the end.The setting of this story is a small town in East Tennessee. I have changed the names of the People so as not to cause anyone any problems. Nearly everyone is dead anyway.Folks, I must warn you this is a True Love Story. It is kinda Spicy and to some it could be a little offensive. Hope you enjoy it.
