After her adventures in Australia Linda returns to England on hearing of her father's illness. Following his death she plans to ride through Africa and in 1974 begins this journey made at a time when few people venture into this continent, especially by motorcycle. Her 500cc BMW is already 17 years old and suffers many breakdowns during the trip. Sahara sand, Congo mud and an attack of malaria in Kenya all add to the thrill of this fifteen month journey and, despite the many setbacks, Linda still keeps a smile on her face. The events and people met are described with honesty and humour and the rich tapestry of the political history of Africa, at that time, is woven into the story.
A chance meeting of two free spirits in a Portuguese park leads to a kaleidoscope of adventures in Africa, Europe, America and Canada. Linda and Georgia hike in the High Atlas mountains, give a concert in Casablanca and part in the south, not knowing when or if they will meet again. While Georgia faces the dangers of lone travel in the African desert Linda heads east. This is a story of friendship covering 17 months and many miles: the joys, sorrows and mishaps experienced. An extraordinary tale involving a Celtic harp, tin whistle and an old BMW motorbike.

It's the 1960s and Jacky, Angie and Linda are three young English girls who break away from their home and families in UK and become 'Ten pound Poms' using the Australian immigration policy as a means to explore 'the wide, brown land'.Their adventures, from flatting in Kings Cross to travelling by motorcycle all over Australia, including the then unsealed Nullarbor and Mt Isa track, will amaze you. It will keep you laughing and remind you that if you have the will there is a way; it's just a matter of following your dreams.Australia is now full of immigrants from all over the world but in the late 1960s, during the white Australia policy, a large amount were recruited from Britain to work in the expanding motor and white goods industry. The Baby Boomer generation, now in their 60s and 70's are busy collecting photos and momentos of their youth. This book recalls the days in Australia when opportunities were there to be taken, the time before bureaucracy had taken hold and 'health and safety' was unheard of. It will appeal to many who came to Australia under the immigration scheme of that time and have their own memories of finding their feet in a new country.
