Man hat mir bisweilen den Vorwurf gemacht, daß ich eine weit größere Neigung für die Insekten hege, als für meine nächsten Verwandten. Das ist eine Übertreibung, der ich mit Entschiedenheit entgegentreten muß, und dennoch scheint es, als spräche ich die Unwahrheit, wenn ich zugebe, daß ich erst kürzlich wieder muntere, liebe Gesellschaft verließ und hinwegzog ¿ den Insekten nach. In der Tat hätte man da meinen können, es gingen mir die Kerbtiere, präziser gesagt dieInsecta hexapoda, über alles, als wäre es mir ganz gleichgiltig gewesen, daß schöne Augen mir tränenumflort und nicht ohne Groll nachschauten. Wir hatten von Göttingen aus, den prächtigen September, den schönsten Reisemonat für den Harz, benutzend, eine fröhliche Gebirgsreise unternommen, einige Studienfreunde von mir, die eben erst den schweren Feldzug von 1870 bis 1871 überstanden hatten, deren Schwestern, eine meiner Tanten und ich.
