Growth is a central objective in the management of children with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This book reviews the growth patterns observed in children with CKD, as well as the causes of growth disorders and the signs and causes of protein energy loss in pediatric CKD.Methods of assessing growth and nutritional status, and the limitations of these measures in CKD, will also be reviewed.Management strategies to optimize growth and nutrition in children with CKD, including the use of recombinant growth hormone. Finally, the chapter concludes with information on the neurological development of the child with CKD.

Primary hyperoxaluria is a group of inherited diseases with autosomal recessive inheritance (ARD), resulting from an inborn disorder of hepatic glyoxylate metabolism responsible for excessive oxalate production and increased urinary oxalate excretion.This disorder leads to precipitation of highly insoluble oxalate in the form of calcium oxalate crystals in the kidneys, resulting in nephrocalcinosis, recurrent urinary lithiasis (LU) and frequent progression to chronic renal failure (CKD). When renal function is impaired, elevated oxalemia leads to systemic oxalosis, corresponding to calcium oxalate deposition in various tissues, mainly bone, but also the cardiovascular system, skin, retina, etc.

Lupus nephropathy (LN) affects 50-75% of children with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Lupus nephritis is more common and severe in children and has been associated with high morbidity and mortality. This review aimed to describe the general aspects of LN and its peculiarities when affecting children and adolescents, while focusing on the etiopathogenesis of the disease, clinical manifestations, renal tissue alterations, as well as therapeutic management.

Die Lupusnephropathie (NL)betrifft 50-75 % der Kinder mit systemischem Lupus erythematodes (SLE). Die Lupusnephritis ist bei Kindern häufiger und schwerer und wurde mit einer hohen Morbidität und Mortalität in Verbindung gebracht. Ziel dieser Übersichtsarbeit war es, die allgemeinen Aspekte der LN und ihre Besonderheiten bei Kindern und Jugendlichen zu beschreiben, wobei der Schwerpunkt auf der Ätiopathogenese der Krankheit, den klinischen Manifestationen, den Veränderungen des Nierengewebes sowie dem therapeutischen Management lag.
