This book is about the process of deciding how we determine our use of any particular biblical text. In essence, we are each the architect of our own biblical house. let's take an honest look at how we have designed our individual house. In this inspired and engaging work, Mark Wickstrom shows how conflicting religious opinions derive not from contradictions in the Bible but from personal agendas that contradict the gospel of grace. he identifies the timeless truths, cultural norms, personal opinions, and random texts that suit personalagendas and may create divisions among the faithful. read the gospel of grace to discover how to create deeper understanding and unity in faith communities large and small.
As a pastor I talk about God's grace quite frequently. Grace is the unmerited favor that is available because of God's unconditional love, Jesus' amazing forgiveness and the presence of the Holy Spirit to lead us and guide us in all things spiritual. So often "grace" is seen in only its eternal form. God's grace provides eternal life to those who accept this divine gift. Sensible Grace, on the other hand, is the grace that comes to us in the form of an insight or "aha" moment when we see a circumstance, situation or relationship in a whole new light. It brings us a sense of relief. An imaginary weight has been lifted. A burden has been taken away. For this insight to happen we often need a catalyst. It may come in the form of a comment from another person, or it may come from doing some analysis on our own.
Faith is a living entity within us. In order to ensure growth we are well advised to look for ways to nurture it. One of the tools many Christians use is attending worship on a regular basis. The elements often found in such services include: music to lift our spirit, prayers to converse personally with God, confession to free our conscience and a sermon to challenge our minds, increase our knowledge and/or inspire us to acts of caring and kindness. This book contains devotions based on 52 sermons preached as part of eight different sermon series. Each devotion will offer you insights about a Biblical text. Then it will provide questions for a deeper understanding of the verses. Finally, you will find a brief prayer that you can offer to God. All of these elements are assembled in the hope and with a prayer that your faith will be nourished and deepened.
