When Mark and Nancy Sheppard began missionary service in Liberia, Nancy had no idea what God would ask of her. Their idyllic first term was followed by the Liberian Civil War and a nightmarish year working among Liberian refugees in the Ivory Coast. Conditions were difficult, expectations overwhelming and the tensions of the war at their doorstep. Fear, self-pity, resentment and depression haunted her. God used Nancy's difficult decision to follow her husband's leadership and remain in refugee work to begin an amazing spiritual journey - one that led to a clearer understanding of biblical womanhood as well as a deeper relationship with the Lord and with her husband. The book chronicles Nancy's journey to true peace in the midst of very difficult circumstances. As God teaches her about genuine service, submission, sincere prayer, reverence and humility, she is totally and completely transformed. The Youth Edition removes some of the more detailed explanations of the war and Liberian culture that may not be appropriate for younger readers.
It has been 17 years since this book has challenged mature Christian women to mentor younger wives and mothers. This expanded version includes valuable Appendices that will give the mentoring relationship eternal significance. It is still popular as an individual study or in small groups.
Christians and non-Christians alike often embrace a low view of God, and consequently a casual view of sin and Scripture. This low view of God is reflected in their attitudes about God, their attitudes about Scripture, and their attitudes of the heart. This book is about being "transformed by the renewing of your mind" and not being "conformed to this world" (Romans 12:2). Your Heart is who you are on the inside. It is what you think, your motives, and your desires. Our hearts have been conformed to the world's way of thinking. Paul wrote, "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind..." (Romans 12:2). If you have a teachable heart, Attitudes of a Transformed Heart will help you truly honor God by what you think. Study questions are at the end of each chapter.
A companion study guide written and designed to provide reinforcement of the principles presented in the popular book. This is an excellent format for group study. A separate teacher's guide is available, and both have convenient spiral bindings.
Here is a scripturally based blueprint for the woman who really wants to be the wife God intended her to be. This book is based on Proverbs 31:10: An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels.Thousands of women have already discovered the worth of this volume and testify to lives and marriages changed because of a commitment to the principles presented here. If this is a commitment you have made, or want to make, The Excellent Wife answers the difficult questions facing you today."The Excellent Wife is an absolute must for women today ... Within its pages is a detailed portrait of a godly wife. Not only is the standard high and holy, but Martha demonstrates that by God's grace, it is attainable". Stuart W. Scott, Associate Pastor Biblical Counseling & Family Ministries Grace Community Church Sun Valley, California
