This book traces the first thirty years of the church with a particular emphasis on the mission and ministry of the church. The mission of the church is to make disciples and teach the whole counsel of God. The ministry of the church is to prepare the saints (the people of God) to understand the purpose and engage in the mission of the church. In recent church history, Evangelical churches have devoted an extraordinary amount of time, effort, and money on "church growth" methods rather than on the biblical mission and ministry of the church. The first thirty years of the church reveals "church growth" from a biblical perspective. "And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved" (Acts 2:47).

This book is written so that simple words like faith or not so simple words like aseity are explained in plain language. Although there are numerous dictionaries, concordances, and encyclopedias that define theological words, phrases, and concepts, there are few that are concise and simple. Theological Terms in Layman Language is easy to read and designed for people who want a brief definition for theological terms.

I am sure you have heard Christians say, "I believe in keeping the Ten Commandments." Unfortunately, many of them are not able to quote the Ten Commandments. I wrote this book so Christians might discover or re-discover the meaning of the Ten Commandments, based on the full counsel of God. The underlying motivation was to help Christians develop a worldview that includes God's moral law.God's law is not merely a series of moral injunctions. The nature of its content is much broader than the Ten Commandments found in Exodus twenty. I hope this book will challenge Christians to further study God's law. For example, the chapter on the fourth commandment explains the Christian work ethic based on the commandment, "Six days you shall labor and do all your work."I have worked on this project from time to time for over twenty years. It always challenges me to a deeper understanding of what Christ accomplished for me; by saving me from the law so I might serve Him by keeping the law.I hope this book will help Christians make godly choices.

Every culture has cultural elites, the people who have the greatest influence over a particular culture. Philosophers, theologians, educators, politicians, actors, or anyone of celebrity status will influence culture with their worldviews. Unless Christians understand the historical principals that caused spiritual and cultural devastation for generation after generation, they will repeat history and lose their culture. The argument set forth in this book is that although modernity has shaped the character of the evangelical church, the church growth movement is the driving force to implement the tools of modernity in the evangelical church. Prayer is a means of grace offered according to the will of God as expressed in the Bible. Prayer is the speech of the soul.
