Mary Shelley's iconic masterpiece is brought to life with the definitive on-screen Frankenstein, Boris Karloff, in this stunning new graphic novel!Decades before the works of Edgar Allan Poe, Jules Verne, and H.G. Wells, 18-year-old Mary Shelley wrote what many regard as the first work of science fiction when she penned FRANKENSTEIN: or, the MODERN PROMETHEUS, which was published in 1818. Over one hundred years later, in 1931, a hard-working but relatively unknown actor named Boris Karloff was cast to play Frankenstein's monster in James Whale's now classic movie adaptation. The film made Karloff a star and solidified Frankenstein's monster as an icon of the silver screen. In 2024, Legendary Comics is proud to bring Shelley and Karloff together for the first time in a faithful adaptation of the novel starring the iconic actor in the lead role of the fully reimagined monster. In partnership with Sara Karloff of Karloff Enterprises, and featuring the artistic talents of Kerry Gammill and El Garing, the team behind the award-winning BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA STARRING BELA LUGOSI, this new graphic novel is certain to delight and terrify old and new fans alike.

Born in 1797, Mary Shelley's mother died when she was only 11 days old. Mary was then raised by her Father, who remarried when she was four, and thereafter the young Mary had a liberal but informal upbringing. At 17 she began the relationship with the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley which was the bedrock of her life; although society viewed the unmarrieds somewhat differently. It was in this relationship that she nurtured and edited Shelley's verse and wrote, at 21, her signature work "Frankenstein" for which she is so well known. Her husband drowned when she was 25 which added further to the earlier loss of 3 of her 4 children. Beset with such great tragedy her life remained to be fulfilled but, at only 53, a brain tumour was to take her own life. However she left behind a wonderful collection of works of which The Last Man is a rich and textured part.

Ever wanted to read a book about a guy reading another book? Yes? Good. I think we have the book for you. Are you worried that you'd miss out key points of the book he's reading because you wouldn't be reading it as well? In this case that won't be a problem because you will be reading it as well. This book, about someone reading Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, also happens to have the entire text for Frankenstein in it. You won't miss a word! It's like reading two books at once, like experiencing the world twice in one go. Better than one book and worse at the same time. It's great because it's Frankenstein and it's also got something more. Now if you could only turn your reading of this book into a book... then you'd really have something there. You'd really be able to connect with at least one character, in case you can't connect with anyone in Frankenstein nor the guy reading it. But unfortunately that dream isn't this book, yet. So settle for the best you've got, which is this: The Reading of Frankenstein by acclaimed author Dr. Stan Johnston-Symth.

1823 edition of Frankenstein. You already know this is the most original, and one of the best, and best-written horror stories in literature. You may or may not like the story, but that's a matter of personal taste. The setting is that of dark, sublime and exotic, making the reader uneasy. And, the 'double' feature only adds to the mystery and the sensation for the reader. So, here it is, the author's original script, no-frills. Which is exactly what you were looking for.

These reflections have dispelled the agitation with which I began my letter, and I feel my heart glow with an enthusiasm which elevates me to heaven, for nothing contributes so much to tranquillize the mind as a steady purpose-a point on which the soul may fix its intellectual eye. This expedition has been the favourite dream of my early years. I have read with ardour the accounts of the various voyages which have been made in the prospect of arriving at the North Pacific Ocean through the seas which surround the pole. You may remember that a history of all the voyages made for purposes of discovery composed the whole of our good Uncle Thomas' library. My education was neglected, yet I was passionately fond of reading. These volumes were my study day and night, and my familiarity with them increased that regret which I had felt, as a child, on learning that my father's dying injunction had forbidden my uncle to allow me to embark in a seafaring life.
