As the host of a series of popular teaching seminars on The Pilgrim's Progress, and the author of a revision of the text of the allegory, Barry Horner has been instrumental in bringing Bunyan's classic alive for a new generation of readers across the English-speaking world. After decades of study and seminar teaching around the world, Dr. Horner has encountered countless questions concerning The Pilgrim's Progress. Here is the fruit of his study an in-depth consideration of the most provocative and sometimes puzzling elements woven throughout this unrivaled allegory. Dr. Horner's unashamed intent is always to explain and reinforce Bunyan's conservative Evangelical thrust. Over twenty rich chapters include a wealth of information considering not only stylistic, historical, social and communicative issues, but above all the concern of the Bedford pastor to proclaim the gospel that focuses on the glorious grace of God freely offered through Christ. There is no better commentary available today to unlock the depth and riches of John Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress, nor is there arguably a more qualified scholar anywhere to guide us through this classic and monumental work of literature.

In this classic tale of faith we find little Milly has been left an orphan after the sudden death of her mother. Of necessity she is sent to live with her uncle, an affirmed bachelor who dislikes children, and considers little girls even more irksome. Milly at once proves bothersome and tries her uncle's patience with her constant concerns for what she calls "probable" sons-her word for wayward young men since she cannot pronounce "prodigal" correctly. Despite this little quirk Milly exhibits a tender heart for God and God's lost ones. She prayerfully seeks God for all his probable sons to return home. As the days go by, her uncle's heart cannot help but warm to his endearing niece who radiates innocence, love and hope. Probable Sons is a delightful story of forgiveness and reconciliation. Can such innocence and love penetrate even the hardest of hearts, perhaps even that of her very probable uncle?

Are the new Roman Catholic apologists being honest with you? Can you really put your faith in what they're teaching? Employing plain language, common sense, and above all -- Scripture, Eric Svendsen carefully analyzes the pet arguments of these "new breed" Catholic apologists, and skillfully exposes their logical fallacies, doctrinal errors, and very unbiblical defenses.

In the Smalcald Articles, (at the behest of his patron, Elector John Frederick of Saxony), Luther summarized what he regarded to be the most important teaching in Christianity, these Articles were prepared with the intention of being presented at the Schmalkaldic League's meeting in 1537 primarily to address concerns pertaining to the office and power of the Roman Catholic Pope. The League had been organized in 1531 as a union of various Lutheran territories and cities, to provide a united military and political front against Roman Catholic politicians and armies, led by Emperor Charles V. After some argument, the league ultimately determined not to adopt the articles Luther had written, instead adopting a treatise by Philipp Melanchthon. Although they were not adopted at the meeting of the Schmalkaldic League, they nonetheless gained wide acceptance and use and were eventually incorporated into the Book of Concord in 1580 as one of the Lutheran Confessions of the faith.

A comprehensive study of the last things (eschatology). Designed for all earnest Bible students, but especially for ministers, seminary students, Bible college students, and others who are exploring or revisiting these theological concepts. George Whitefield was the greatest evangelist of the 18th century in America and was a major contributor to the Great Awakening. Whitefield criss-crossed the countryside of Colonial America boldly preaching the message of salvation. Crowds packed the churches and outdoor venues whenever Whitefield appeared, bubbling over with eager anticipation to hear his great oration. His preaching was described as bold, purely gospel, and blazing with an intensity of evangelistic passion. His voice was so powerful that 30,000 people could hear him at once, and yet still so musical and sweetly toned that he could, by the grace of God, bring hardened men to tears of repentance. In, The Method of Grace, a classic of revival preaching, Whitefield shows the way God has provided for a person to receive true, lasting peace for his soul. See how this great preacher of the Great Awakening brought the Gospel into intimate connection with people's hearts and not just their heads. For those who preach the Gospel it will have a profound impact on how you preach the message of peace.

There are many books explaining and defending the doctrines known as Calvinism but there is none like that of this volume from C. H. Spurgeon, the Prince of Preachers. Spurgeon was not only a theologian but a Pastor, and it is with the heart of a pastor that he defends the doctrines of grace. This quintessential classic work by Spurgeon is fortified with select sermons on the individual doctrines as well as a bonus sermon on the issue of whether extolling the grace of God as taught in Scriptures leads to sin. Geerhardus Vos devotes this work to a discussion of Jesus' greatest focus in ministry -- the "kingdom of God" (and the "kingdom of heaven," which Vos takes to be referencing the same thing.) Vos begins by connecting Christ's teaching on the kingdom to the Old Testament and its concepts of a Messianic king. Then he moves into the conception of the kingdom during the New Testament with a cursory analysis of the pertinent Greek phrases (but largely accessible to a layman). From there, he moves into the kingdom as it is now, and as it will be in the new heavens and the new earth. Finally, the remaining chapters detail specific aspects and characteristics of the kingdom as it currently exists including the church as it is also compared to the kingdom, and as the means by which one gains entrance into the kingdom. Vos' enlightening treatment of this important theme in the Scriptures ought to be read, particularly by pastors, to assist in preaching and teaching on passages dealing with this vital subject.

  • - or God Reconciled in Christ
    af Michael Rotolo
    162,95 kr.

The single most blessed truth of all time is that God forgives sins. What would the destiny of mankind be if all were to perish in their sins? The fact is that every man and woman (except Jesus Christ) that ever drew breath has transgressed the law of a perfectly holy creator God to whom they must give an account for their sin. Only that which is perfect can occupy heaven with God for all eternity. So then how can a man be saved from the penalty due his sins? In this volume Henry Law treats in great detail the marvelous truth that sin can be forgiven. There are many aspects to this truth and to mistake one at any point is to corrupt the gospel of Jesus Christ. You will be richly blessed by the glorious truth that Henry Law expounds concerning our blessed hope of salvation from sin--in and by--our Savior. This book is an excellent resource for evangelism to those that do not yet understand the gospel and a deeply devotional work for those of us that do.

Nothing fascinates and grips the imagination more than the Bible's portents regarding the "last days" and "the end of the age"-but of all Scripture, the passages dealing with these events are those most frequently misunderstood. In this classic volume Philip Mauro deals most thoroughly and precisely with two of the major aspects of end-times prophecy-the timeline of Messiah known as the Seventy Weeks of Daniel 9 and The Great Tribulation. A proper method of Bible interpretation is the key that unlocks these mysteries and Mauro has gotten it right. This key work must be included within the library of anyone that seeks to explore these prophecies seriously.

This important, historical book was actually written simply as a private letter to a personal friend of Henry Scougal's. It was not penned with any intention of seeing it published, but God has been pleased to use it in a way that made it quickly a classic Puritan text and one of the most widely read and influential treatises ever put into print. It has served faithfully as a comfort to the saints of God for hundreds of years.Just before his death, at 27 years old, Scougal allowed this private correspondence to be published. Nearly 70 years later, a young George Whitefield would be brought to a true knowledge of God by reading it.

The Plan of Salvation is the result of a series of five lectures delivered by Benjamin B. Warfield at Princeton Theological Seminary in 1914. In these now famous discourses, B. B. Warfield thoroughly analyzes all the possible soteriologies and emphatically concludes that, - "There are fundamentally only two doctrines of salvation- that salvation is from God, or that salvation is from ourselves." Warfield skillfully arrives at this determination through an enriching and edifying process of argumentation which is sure to convince the reader that truly- salvation is from God alone. www.greatchristianbooks.com

  • - In its Relations to the Covenant, the Priesthood, and the Intercession of our Lord
    af Michael Rotolo
    207,95 kr.

The Atonement is the most significant aspect of our salvation wrought by Jesus Christ on our behalf and this book which deals with the atonement in depth is the most significant contribution to the Christian church by the nineteenth century Scottish Calvinist-Hugh Martin. He was a theologian of extraordinary grasp and great power and is considered one of the masters of Covenant Theology heralding from Scotland. For creative brilliance paired with reverent orthodoxy Martin outshines them all, on both sides of the Atlantic. Martin's keen analytical mind also distinguished him as an outstanding mathematician. At a time when the preaching of the cross has been displaced from many pulpits by a therapeutic-moralistic deism, and where experience-oriented, utilitarian teaching has eclipsed sound doctrine, Hugh Martin's exposition of the atonement as it relates to the Covenant, the priestly work of our Lord, and upon the intercession and the mediation of our Lord is a work that demands the attention of every pastor and lay-person as well.

Octavius Winslow was one of the foremost evangelical preachers of the 19th Century. His deeply Christ-centered works exhibit his love, wisdom, and pastoral excellence. Richly devotional, -they warm the soul and fan the flames of holiness with sincere love, and praise to the Lord. This book, Personal Declension and Revival of Religion in the Soul, deals with the Christian who finds that his heart has cooled to the things of God. We all experience dry periods in which our feelings become dull and our obedience wains. Winslow deals realistically with exposing the reasons for our declension in love for the Lord and gives us practical, godly advice to revive our souls to new love for Him. This classic volume is of enormous value to all Christians.

A concise treatment of the Sovereignty of God as pertains to the salvation of men. This excellent work is from the pen of one of the world's leading theologians, Jonathan Edwards. Edwards deals with the definition, scope and working of God's sovereign decision-making in his plan to save a people for Himself. After reading this historical work you will have no doubt that salvation is entirely a work of the good-pleasure of God and that we as men cannot contribute to our justification.

  • - Considered in relation to its Mode and Subjects
    af Michael Rotolo
    207,95 kr.

The Church has been divided with respect to many doctrines over the previous 500 years since the Protestant Reformation but one of the greatest divisions centers around the doctrine of baptism-its mode and its subjects. There are those that dogmatically insist that the word "baptizo" and its cognates as found in Scripture means "to immerse" and nothing more. Given this view they must conclude that to be properly baptized, as God commands, then a person must be baptized by immersion-and only by immersion, into the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Are they correct though? Since the majority of those that hold to Reformation theology, hold to a differing view of baptism-namely, that baptism should be applied by sprinkling or pouring-the Church of Christ remains at odds. And who should be baptized? Only those that are old enough to credibly profess their personal faith in Christ-or as the Paedobaptist believes, their children born into the covenant home? In this classic work, Archibald Burgess deftly tackles the issues with compelling logic and Scriptural support. Although unabashedly Paedobaptistic, Burgess writes in an irenic tone that makes this a valuable addition to the libraries of all Christians regardless of where you currently fall out on this issue. Every Christian must wrestle with this matter and come to his or her own settled conviction. This approachable volume is an excellent basis for studying this important doctrine as it deals with the original language but not so deeply as to confuse the layman. Whether Baptist or Paedobaptist, everyone will benefit from exploring the Scriptures along with Burgess as you study the doctrines of Christian Baptism.

The mountain region of Germany known as the Black Forest is a difficult place to live especially in the bitter cold of winter. Most folks lead a hard and humble life. For Max Steiner it was no different. Despite the protests of his carnally-minded mother he he had set his eye upon sweet little Doris. He loved her and couldn't imagine living without her. Doris and Max were quickly blessed with their first child, a son they named Herman, who grows to be an awkward, unpopular young boy who would often think of himself as a "good-for-nothing" but God has great plans for Herman. There would be significant obstacles and set backs but God would fashion him into a powerful man of God and through this unstoppable plan God would also see to softening the hard hearts of many. From jealous neighbors, to Max's domineering and ambitious mother, to Max himself, God would touch and even redeem some from very worldly lives. Though unable to give to Herman the treasure that Max's rich mother could offer, Doris's faithful mother Magdalena offers the consistent and faithful prayers that God will use to transform Herman into his champion for the everlasting Gospel. She may well be the overlooked heroine of this beautiful story of faith and grace.
