Computergestützte Transkription empirischer Sprachdaten ist ein Grundinstrument verschiedener linguistischer Ansätze. Die schriftbasierte (orthografische) Rekonstruktion gesprochener Sprache stößt auf Hindernisse, wenn die Daten mehrsprachige, varietätenreiche und polydialektale Interaktionsprozesse dokumentieren. Dies gilt umso stärker, je unterschiedlicher die Schriftsysteme sind und je lückenhafter die orthografische Kodifizierung der standardfernen Sprachformen ist. Ein Beispiel ist die Transkription arabisch-deutscher Gespräche: Wie lässt sich gesprochenes Arabisch gesprächsanalytisch verschriften und übersetzen? Welche Möglichkeiten bieten lateinbasierte Umschriften? Diese Arbeit schlägt eine Systematik auf der Grundlage von Beratungsgesprächen vor, die per Telefon gedolmetscht wurden.

In this biography, history sleuth Michael Schreiber digs into old letters, newspapers, and documents to tell the story of Thomas Cave, an "ordinary man" who had many extraordinary adventures in early America.
