Prediction of surface roughness and dimensional inaccuracies is an essential prerequisite for any unmanned computer numeric controlled (CNC) machinery. This prediction technique is also important for optimization of machining process.Ii is observed that, using Taguchi approach, the quality of surface finish can be predicted within a reasonable degree of accuracy. Surface roughness is the critical factor which influences the quality of the machined parts. In this Book, an attempt has been made to optimize the cutting conditions to get predicted surface roughness in end milling of mild steel work piece. The experiment was designed using Taguchi method and 16 experimental runs were conducted for various combinations of cutting parameters according to L16¿ orthogonal array technique. The orthogonal array, signal to noise ratio and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were employed to study the performance characteristics at different conditions. In order to analyze the response of the system, experiments were carried out at various spindle speeds, depth of cut and feed rate. The results obtained by this research will be useful for various industries and and researchers working in this field.

In today¿s fast paced business environment, superior logistics performance is a prerequisite to become and stay competitive.Distribution & warehousing practices account for about 70% of total logistics while annual logistics expenditure is nearly 13% of the GDP.At the other side of the coin, induction of technology & best manufacturing practices in the last few years, the scope for improving efficiency within the production premises has narrowed substantially while situation has been quite different particularly the warehouse & distribution operations management, which has yet to receive the attention that manufacturing has been. Therefore they are becoming the last frontier for significant increase in shareholders & customers value. This work includes the analysis of various approaches & respective tools & techniques for identifying best one suited for focus logistics practices,it also includes development of a user interface template for priority based gap analysis for different parameters through multi-criteria decision making method and an interface which provides the graphical representation of result for better grasping of the best of the best practice against current performance

Implementation of lean helps many organizations to improve their productivity andefficiency; on the other hand, numerous organizations have failed to benefit from lean philosophy. The case of not achieving the expected results of implementing lean is not because of limitation of lean to specific organizations type; however, themisconception of the lean philosophy is amongst the main failure¿s factors. The lean thinking was originated in the automobile manufacturing sector and it widely spreads within the discrete industries; however, the today¿s challenge is to implement the lean philosophy within SMEs and different organizations regardless to the type, size, or mission of the applicant organization. This has motivated the undertaken research to propose a standard generic transition steps which can be adopted by different organizations in order to become lean. The Submersible pump manufacturer is ideal example of the SMEs sector and it will be used to demonstrate that the lean philosophy is applicable to all different organization types.

Friction stir welding is a recent promising solid state joining technique used to join high strength aluminium alloy. This present work focused to evaluate the effect of process parameters such as tool rotational speed; welding speed and shoulder diameter on yield strength and tensile strength of 6 mm thickness friction stir welded AA7075-0 aluminium alloy joints. As an initial step thermomechanical model was developed using hyper work 14.0 simulation software and simulation process was carried out. Out of different response from the analysis two responses were selected i.e. peak temperature of joint and yield strength. It was observed from the result that the peak temperature of joint is below the melting point of parent metal. After that, experimental work was performed and prepared 27 samples and tensile strength was recorded of all samples.Process parameters were optimized by the full factorial design approach on the basis of high tensile and yield strength. Non-linear regression model was developed to correlate the process parameters to yield strength and tensile strength of joint.

Reliability goals are generally associated with a reliability growth program. A program may have more than one reliability goal. For e.g. there may be a reliability goal associated with failures resulting in unscheduled maintenance actions & a separate goal associated with those failures causing a mission abort or catastrophic failure. Other reliability goals may be associated with failures modes that are safety related. The monitoring of the increase of the product¿s reliability through successive phases in a reliability growth analysis (RGA) concerns itself with the quantification and assessment of parameters (or metrics) relating to the products reliability growth over time. Reliability growth management addresses the attainment of the reliability objectives through planning and controlling of the reliability growth process.

Welding is a fabrication or sculptural process that joins materials, usually metals or thermoplastics, by causing coalescence. This is often done by melting the work-pieces and adding a filler material to form a pool of molten material (the weld pool) that cools to become a strong joint, with pressure sometimes used in conjunction with heat, or by itself, to produce the weld. This is in contrast with soldering and brazing, which involve melting a lower-melting-point material between the work-pieces to form a bond between them, without melting the work pieces. There are several different ways to weld, such as: Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, Tungsten Inert Gas and Metallic Inert Gas. MIG (Metallic Inert Gas) involves a wire fed "gun" that feeds wire at an adjustable speed and sprays a shielding gas (generally pure Argon or a mix of Argon and CO2) over the weld puddle to protect it from the outside world. With GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) becoming more widely used in the industry worldwide and increasing demands towards higher productivity the demand for higher deposition rates arose.
