A story to help understanding a neurodivergent brain.Created and inspired by my daughters ADHD diagnosis, I wanted to gift her a book that help explained her brain's processes and needs. No big words or acronyms that result in 'what does that mean' and bring the child out of the story."Brains are just like cars, they all drive round and round a track, picking up information and then bringing it back. Some brains are Race Cars that like to drive extra fast. Sometimes though, they forget to sop and fully complete a task.'But driving cars fast all the time and not servicing or maintaining them leads to overheating and burnout. We can apply that same logic to our brains.I am so proud of this book, and sharing with friends I have been told the same principles talked about in this book apply to their children who are on the spectrum. What this book is: An explanation of common traits in a neurodivergent brainGiving SELF regulation tools to the child to use themselves to assist with the plan and treatment around themA book to open conversation between you and the child about their individual selves and why you both do what you do to manage and assist and uplift. What this book is not: Going to explain treatment or management approaches as that is an individual or tailored experience.Going to specify traits in detail as once again it is again so individual.
A book about personal space represented by a bubble described in my words.¿Inside that bubble is more bubbles, all of them representing a different layer - but all these bubbles are invisible to the eye so we need to learn how to protect our own bubbles and respect others!Sometimes understanding personal space can be tricky, and we don't what to do if we accidentally pop another persons bubble.PERSONAL SPACESomething that is important to all of us and so important to teach to ensure safety. But when you're little, WHAT IS PERSONAL SPACE?- You know when yours has been invaded from the not so good feelings- Its so hard to imagine something that doesn't physically exist, but exists emotionally- You haven't developed the social cues yet of understanding others space- When you're neurodivergent, those social cues are so hard or even IMPOSSIBLE to see- 'Personal' and 'space' are two pretty advanced adult words and terms- Bubbles are a great example of space within an allocated zone, and most kids LOVE BUBBLES! It gives a physical imagining to an invisible concept.I do not use big words or acronyms that take the child out of the book, asking 'what does that mean?', a light rhyming story that can be a great conversation opener on what personal space means to YOUR family. We all have a bubble and value our personal space layers. As a neurodivergent individual, personal space is paramount to me. I don't just like and value my personal space, it is critical for my headspace to be able to function. This is my second book in my 'Neurodiversity Without All The Terminology' series.
A story to help understand and small self regulation strategies for a neurodivergent brain.Created and inspired when my daughter received the same diagnosis as me (ADHD + Autism), I wanted to gift her a book that help explained her brain's processes and needs simply and factually, so I wrote one about mine! I use no big words or acronyms that result in 'what does that mean' and bring the reader/listener out of the story.I envision my books be what I call 'conversation openers'. My dream is that the book is read between adult and the child and then a chat about their individual selves and what can and could be done to manage, assist, uplift and radically love. In this book, you are not going to find explanations of specific tools or management approaches (such as medication, therapy, etc.) as that is an individual or tailored experience, instead use this book to introduce the concept between adult and child.
