This is a book about personal change related to "spendaholic" behaviors. It is the recorded journey of the author's commitment to not purchase anything non-disposable for herself or her home for an entire year. The stimulus for this book was a trip to New Orleans soon after Hurricane Katrina. On that trip the author connected to her spendaholic behavior, and vowed to change it. Believing that personal change takes more time than thirty days or ninety days, the author made a commitment that lasted one full year to reinforce that change. The lessons in this short book include journal entries for my year of no personal spending and lessons I gained along the way. I hope you will smile some, shake your head some, and worry some if it strikes a little close to home, but most of all, I hope you will see that small attitude shifts and thoughtful intentionality can truly change behavior and even improve your life. There are many books on budgeting. This book is not about budgeting. There are many books on saving money. This book may help you save money, but saving money isn't the goal of this book. There are no coupon lessons in this book. You can find other books with tips on using coupons as a strategy to saving money. In this year's journey, I discovered my "whys" of spendaholism, which helped me make a lasting change to my behavior. It is my hope that by reading about my journey and insights, readers will be encouraged to discover their own "whys" for their own "isms" and begin their own journey to change. - Patti Fralix, author

Change is prevalent and rapid, and anyone who tries to avoid change does so at their own peril. This is true about personal change as well as change outside of oneself, yet the hardest change for many people to make is personal change. It often takes a life changing event to spur one to make personal transformation, to be their best self and live their best life. There were several significant events in 2017 that propelled Patti Fralix to change herself. This book is more than a record of those events. It is more than how the 2017 life changing events changed Patti Fralix. It can be a roadmap for readers wanting and needing specific information and strategies to change themselves. This information shared in this book is simple enough to understand and follow, yet complex enough to be meaningful. Readers from young adult to mature ages will be entertained, encouraged, and inspired to change whatever will result in positive personal transformation.
