This is a cleaned up copy of the original document published in 1834 including original illustrations and new 3D model illustrations based on the originals. It is printed a full 8 1/2 by 11 inches and we retyped the text to make it easier to read. Although the illustrations are explained thoroughly in the text, I decided to create over 35 new 3D model drawings of some of the figures and it is remarkable how the ideas seem to just "pop" out of the page. Sometime it's not clear in the original drawing which direction some of the ships are headed, so I included shadows of the ships to make it very clear which end is the stern. If this book is well received, I will expand the number of 3D drawings to include all the illustrations. Please let us know if you would like to see an enhanced version of the book as well as provide the names of any other open source books that are in the public domain that you would like us to bring back from the dead.
