Pontus Wikner (1837-1888) war zu seiner Zeit einer der bekanntesten Philosophen Schwedens; seine Psychologischen Selbstbekenntnisse sind die früheste Schilderung und Rechtfertigung einer homosexuellen Identität im nordeuropäischen Raum. 1879 zu Papier gebracht und durch spätere Zusätze ergänzt, ist der Text erst 1971, nach dem Tode aller Nachkommen, veröffentlicht worden. Die Bekenntnisse gehören in Nordeuropa längst zu den grundlegen - den Texten schwuler Geschichte.Wikners Selbstbekenntnisse entstanden zeitlich parallel zu Karl Heinrich Ulrichs’ »Forschungen über das Räthsel der mannmännlichen Liebe«, von denen Wikner, obwohl er die deutsche Sprache beherrschte und 1873 sogar eine Reise nach Deutschland unternahm, keine Kenntnis gehabt zu haben scheint.Raimund Wolfert hat seiner Übersetzung eine ausführliche biografische Studie beigegeben. Darin ist auch von den innigen Freundschaften Wikners mit Schülern und Studenten die Rede, die durch seine Briefe und Tagebücher belegt sind, in den von theologischen und philosophischen Überlegungen geprägten Selbstbekenntnissen aber nur andeutungsweise zur Sprache kommen.
