The final book in the "Misadventures of Haole boy" series is one of the more personal account of the author's travels. Returning home from his trip abroad Haole boy finds that his father is dying from cancer. Convinced that the cure to his father's illness is returning him home to Hawaii Haole boy defies the doctors and airline policy to smuggle his father on a flight home. But getting him on the flight is a journey of its own.
A prank phone call interpreted as a threat turns out to be a timely warning from an anonymous friend. But, Haole boy learns, it is easier to escape and elude the authorities than it is to change his dangerously self-destructive lifestyle. This prequel to Hotel Amir Kabir is a fictional, introspective and sometimes humorous account of the end of the countercultural revolution.
The Haole boy returns to Garmisch Germany broke and wary after a disastrous attempt to visit Calcutta. He finds a job at the Hotel Von Steuben. Working in a kitchen ruled by a tyrannical, racist, ex-Nazi cook proves to be a challenge for Haole boy; still he manages to keep his focused on his goals and his mouth shut. This fictional work is based on the author's experience working for the American Forces Recreational Center in Garmisch Germany circa 1974-1976.
