In Transforming Communication, Richard Bolstad combines his knowledge and experience as a communications educator and trainer on 6 continents, to show how a wide range of skills, including Neuro Linguistic Programming, can be applied to create effective communication. This third edition is fully updated with research making it suitable for those taking degree programmes as well as general readers. This book is based on the Transforming Communication training, which has been used as a core module in teaching medical practitioners, nurses, priests and ministers of churches, counsellors, coaches and teachers. It is used to train high school students as peer mediators, and to train University staff for their work in both the classroom and office. It has been used to train the top management of New Zealand Government departments and staff in banks, large international trading organisations and oil companies. Richard has personally taught it to Government functionaries in Beijing, Managers in Tokyo, School Boards in the United States, Government members and police in the Pacific Islands of Samoa, Trainers in Poland, Managers in Egypt and many other groups. The book contains numerous activities to help readers fully integrate the material into their daily interactions, either individually or in a group.
In 2013, Stanford Business School asked over 200 CEOs and Senior Executive Officers what they needed outside help for more than anything else. Their answer: managing conflicts. "When you are in the CEO role, most things that come to your desk only get there because there is a difficult decision to be made - which often has some level of conflict associated with it." they explain. If you're a manager (of a business, a classroom or a home), you don't always have the luxury of stable and peaceful relationships. You need to be able to create rapport and resolve disagreements fast, so you can get on with what you do best. The Transforming Communication course teaches you how to do that, and this is its manual, as used by certified Transforming Communication Instructors across the world.
Curious about what happens at a genuine International NLP Certification, wanting to compare your own manual to ours, or just fascinated by the whole field of NLP. NLP is not a secret society. Come on in and check it out. This is a manual and not a reference book. If what you are seeking is a reference on NLP, you are better to buy some of our other books such as "Outframes" (co-written by Richard Bolstad and Julia Kurusheva). This is the manual for our 18 day International NLP Practitioner Certification course, approved by IANLP and IN, and run in Europe, Asia and Australasia. None of these techniques should be used without skilled teaching at such a training. Dr Richard Bolstad is a trainer with the International Association of NLP, the International Association of NLP Institutes, and five other International training organisations. He teaches each year in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and New Zealand. Richard's doctoral project was based on the work that he did training psychiatrists and social workers in Bosnia-Herzegovina to deal with the psychological trauma of the Balkan wars. He has a New Zealand Diploma of Teaching and two decades of experience teaching in the tertiary field in New Zealand.
The process of social transformation depends on skills that can be learned. You and your group can become more successful at creating the change you want. Your activism can enhance your sense of personal fulfilment instead of draining it. This book makes leading edge skills from the personal development and conflict resolution fields available for those seeking to assist successful political change at the grassroots level. In working with numerous political change organizations over the years, and training workers from groups such as Greenpeace New Zealand and the New Zealand Peace Foundation, I have an increasing sense of the importance of sharing the NLP skills for personal resilience and conflict management. This book is the outcome of 45 years of political activism and 40 years teaching communication skills.
Resilience, the ability to prepare for, survive and evolve through challenges, depends on a series of skills and actions that can be learned. Dr Richard Bolstad is a qualified teacher, nurse, psychotherapist, and NLP Trainer. He teaches Resilience and trains Trainers to teach it across the planet, in businesses, for emergency first responders, and at the scene of major crises such as wars, earthquakes and climate disasters.
The RESOLVE framework provides structure to NLP's brief therapy approach to personal change.
