In the next ten years, a tidal wave of change will be like a tsunami sweeping all before it. It will be a disruptive time, but full of promise. What will it mean for you? How will your life change? How will the world change? What will happen to your job? Will a robot be your best friend? What will driverless cars be like for travel? Will you go on an excursion to the moon, or be a colonist on Mars? Millions of jobs will be lost. The oil industry will be decimated as electric cars and solar electricity generation impact the use of oil. Deliveries will be made by robots in driverless vans. Hundreds of satellites will be launched to provide global coverage of the internet and cell phones. The Smartphone will revolutionize education. We will launch our first colonization trip to Mars. The status quo will be utterly disrupted. No profession or activity will be unaffected. And it will all happen in the next ten years. Nothing will be the same. With the disruptions, will come new opportunities, new careers, and a golden age for the world. Dr. Martino, the inventor of the Smartphone, space and computer pioneer, presents a factually startling vision of the next decade, full of perils and promises. The Coming Technology Tsunami is his personal history of the future. This book can be your guide to capturing these changes for your benefit.
This volume is really the autobiography of the technological advances of the sixty five years of the author's professional life. He was fortunate in always having the right associates, being part of the right team, being in the right place at the right time, and in doing the right thing. Much of that, of course, is luck. On the other hand, he takes full credit for sensing an opportunity, defining a problem, and then solving it. When a door opened before him, he always walked through it. The unknown on the other side always intrigued him. Making a lot of money was never a priority, but helping people and finding the answer to complex puzzles were the priorities. But, his family life took priority at all times over his professional life. He never found family life to be a burden, but rather, the most important part of his entire life - personal and professional. It was important to him to do the best he could at all times. His drive came from seeing the manner in which his father lived his life and the lessons his father taught him and his brother. They were guided in their lives by their father's character, wisdom and love.
This book is the story of Domenico Martino, a young immigrant boy, who- though he did not find the streets paved with the proverbial gold of the New World- did indeed find a land of opportunity, adventure, growth, and ultimately, a new homeland. Pop's story spans two continents, the beginning of a new century, two world wars and includes reminiscences of the hinterland of Canada. As Pop neared his 80th birthday, he looked back over the years- years marked with joy and tragedy, success and failure, and the normal vicissitudes encountered by all of us. What makes his story more poignant, however, are the anecdotes, observations, and down-to-earth approach that color his philosophy of life with a warmth that is the real mark of a unique person giving us the benefit of his life experience.
In this Volume of my Memories, called "Scientist and Writer", the author bared his soul in a sense, telling of his work as a rocket scientist, and his work as a writer. This volume is also about life and death, about friendships over his lifetime, and about what he learned from others over more than eight and a half decades of solid living. He hopes that you find these descriptions as fascinating as he found them, while living them.
Memories - Volume 1 has taken a lifetime to write. The first Volume consists of the personal element. Volume I, Stories for my Grandchildren, contains recollections and the history of our family, my life, my wife's life, and our life together.
The objective of The Cross of Victory by Rocco Leonard Martino was to stress the fact that the crucifixion of Jesus was not the end, but only the portal to the resurrection which is the beginning. Jesus allowed Himself to be brutalized and to be crucified as a symbol to us of the meaning of His life. He gave of Himself for us. His was the supreme sacrifice, not a failure, not a tragedy, but the opening to the resurrection which is the glorious conquest of death. The resurrection is the promise of eternal life for all of us. The Cross of Victory is Dr. Martino's attempt to show the nobility of the character of Jesus and His divine nature, as the human nature was subjected to horrible torture. The climax of the crucifixion, of course, is the resurrection; which is the triumph over death. The Cross, then, is a symbol of Victory-victory over death, victory over evil, victory over sin. Hence, Dr. Martino thought it fitting to call this book The Cross of Victory.
