This book by Saadat Hasan Manto 'Aatish Paarey' features a selection of his short stories and he wrote that these stories are suppressed sparks, it is the job of the readers to turn them into flames.

Saadat Hasan Manto translated Oscar Wilde's famous and popular play "Veera" which was a tragedy that takes place in Russia and is partially based on Vera Zasulich's life. Manto's Urdu translation was published in 1934. The publication of Oscar Wilde's play on the subject of the Russian Revolution created an uproar in its time. Due to this Urdu translation, there was a stir in the palaces of the British Empire, which increased Manto's popularity in the literary and public circles.

Atish Paray is considered the first published collection of short stories by Saadat Hasan Manto. It was published in the year 1936 while Manto was living in Amritsar. Two stories from this collection Tamasha - Manto's debut story followed by Taqat Ka Imtehan first appeared in a local weekly Khalaq by Abdul Bari Alig from Amritsar. The collection was however published from Lahore and Manto dedicated this collection to his late father.

Baghair Unwan Ke (Without a title) is the only novel written by Manto who is more famously known for his short story collections. This book is based on the psychological problems of a man.

The Siyah Hashiye stories written by Manto are related to the India and Pakistan Partition period. These stories that encompass a line or a paragraph are called Siyah Hashiye, which means Black borders. It is believed that when bad or morose news was published in the newspaper much like today, it was bordered with a black outline. Manto's Siyah Hashiyes gives you a similar twitch in the stomach that you feel when you hear of a death or an accident of a dear one. His pen pierces through your heart like a prick of a needle leaving no bruise, just an urgent rush of pain.
