Chickpea (Cicer arietinum) is one of the world¿s major legume crops and suffers substantial damage from wilt disease incited by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceri (Padwick) with yield loss over 60 per cent. It is an important soil borne plant pathogen and is difficult to manage by application of chemical. Moreover, the chemical control is costly and leads to residual effect. In this book, an integrated approach using host plant resistance and integration of three components i.e., cultural (vermicompost amendment), chemical (ZnSO4 and Salicylic acid) and biological (seed bacterization with Pseudomonas spp.) were contemplated to manage this disease more effectively.

The end of the Cold War not only has resulted in many non-traditional security issues becoming a focus in international relations, but it also set the stage for a comprehensive re-evaluation of the whole concept of security. Afghan Drug trafficking dilemma in Central Asia is very vulnerable issues as a Non-traditional security of the region. This book explores impact of drug trafficking and organized crime on state functioning and threat to human security. Central Asia has emerged as a crucial arena of international security, with an enhanced strategic importance that has replaces the region¿s geographic isolation and geopolitical marginalization. Drug threats to Central Asia have changed in form and structure and most visibly geographically, from being primarily a dilemma from Golden Crescent, with imports from Afghanistan to more multifaceted threat. The origin of the world¿s largest exporter of opium and heroin are today Eurasia, more specifically, Afghanistan, while other products are domestic in origin. This book traces the change in the threat posed by drug production and trafficking in Central Asia, over time and across the major parts of this region.
The liberalization and globalization of Indian economy brought substantial changes in the level of competition, business environment, managing strategies and advanced technology front. The transformed banking sector is also one of the important player of the Indian growth story. In an era of rapid change, the necessity of effectively executing strategy has become crucial. With this background,it is interesting to see how the banks have performed and what their parameters of the performance measurement are? There has been growing criticism of financial measures in the PMS in the post-reform era in India as they are historic in nature and lack futuristic outlook. No longer, financial measures of PMS are enough to survive, sustain and grow in the globalized competitive environment; banks have to invest in intangibles. In this backdrop, there is an urgent need to have a measurement system that balances the financial numbers with today¿s drivers of economic success. The book highlights that how the Indian banking industry have been trying to adopt and adjust themselves to improve their Performance Measurement Systems in the changing socio-economic and global environment.
In this book, we shall concentrate on Bessel beams in the pulsed laser regime. Bessel beams, featured by a central peak (Bessel core) surrounded by rings, are a particularly interesting class of light beams, which can be generated by conical lenses (axicons) or holograms. Thanks to their ¿nondiffracting¿ properties they have been used in various research areas. The main objective of the book was the optimization of the pulsed Bessel beam for two distinguished applications; one for electron acceleration and the second one for the microstructuring of transparent materials. The book is divided into two parts. In the first part we have exploited in a numerical work the accelerating nature of suitably tailored Bessel beams, for the gain enhancement of particles in standard laser-driven plasma wakefield accelerators, where the energy gain is limited by phase dephasing of the particle with respect to the plasma wave. In the second part we have reported the microstructuring of different transparent materials, especially in the diamond with an ultrashort pulsed Bessel beam for different potential applications, such as microfluidics, biosensing is also investigated.
Ethanol is the intoxicating constituent of alcoholic beverages like wine, beer produced by fermentation of yeast/sugar/starch and causes drunkenness. At lower doses, alcohol can act as a stimulant, inducing feelings of euphoria and talkativeness, but drinking too much at one session can lead to drowsiness, respiratory depression, coma or even death. As well as its acute and potentially lethal sedative effect at high doses, alcohol has effects on every organ in the body and these effects depend on BAC over time. Among other factors, every individual¿s reaction to alcohol, is influenced by age, sex, ethnicity, etc. From blood and immune system to excretory to sexual health, alcohol affects all parts and organs of body. Alcohol continues to be a high burden of disease in society, causing indirect disability, injuries, burns, accidents and even drowning. Chronic heavy alcohol use can cause abnormalities like anaemia and low platelet count. Alcohol is also a recognised carcinogen. The physician role is important in identifying the alcoholic, treating associated medical and psychiatric- syndromes, overseeing detoxification, designing rehabilitation programs and providing counselling.
Diseases with the cardinal features of diabetes mellitus were recognized in antiquity. The Hindu physicians, Charak and Sushrut were first to note it among the overweight and gluttonous. There was awareness of different grades of severity of diabetes for many centuries; however, the possibility that there were two distinct types only emerged at the beginning of the 20th century. Diabetes is renowned as a ¿silent epidemic¿. The slow progression and lack of symptoms in the early stages of disease preclude seeking medical attention and preventative care. The term ¿insulin¿ was coined by Macleod and soon insulin was available widely throughout North America and Europe. Most patients with T2DM have features of insulin resistance and are often hypertensive and abdominal obese. Looking at some future directions, the application of stem cell therapy is promising as it may provide a source of cells that are identical or nearly identical to ¿-cells, and it may be possible to engineer stem cells to evade immune recognition. However, Asia continues to emerge as the epicenter of the cardio-metabolic pandemic, which is very serious.

Alcohol is one of the most commonly used drugs among adolescents ¿ young people going through the developmental stage from childhood to adulthood. Some researches do advocate drinking of alcohol in small quantities for good health, but consumption of alcohol is leading to complications during pregnancies and social behavior in young females. Alcohol addiction may often be regarded as one of the least problematic substance among addictions, but numbers tell a different story. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has recently estimated that 76.3 million people suffer from alcohol use disorders worldwide against at least 15.3 million people who have other drug use disorders. Alcohol has a major contribution to the total number of years of life lost to death and disability. Alcohol addiction is a risk for the health of the addict as well as for others, e.g. in cases of traffic accidents and violence. Therefore, alcohol use entails high medical, social and economic costs.
