This book advances social scientific interest in a field long dominated by the humanities: stories, and storytelling. Stories are a whole lot more than entertainment; oral narratives, novels, films and immersive video games all form part of the sociocultural discourses which we are enmeshed in, and use to co-construct our beliefs about the world around us. Young children use them to learn about the world beyond their immediate sensory experience and, even in an era of interactive electronic media, the bedtime story remains a cherished part of most children¿s daily routine. Storytelling is thus the first abstract formal learning method we encounter as human beings. It is also probably transcultural; perhaps even an immanent part of the human condition. Narratives are, at heart, sequences of events and presuppose and reinforce particular cause-and-effect relationships. Inevitably, they also construct unconscious biases, prejudices, and discriminatory attitudes. Storying (a term we usein this book to encompass stories, storytellers and storytelling) is complex, and this book seeks to make sense of it.
Autumn's senior year is filled with preparations for the future; choosing a college, a career but when she hears her sister in California receives a note like the ones left after the break-ins, she knows the situation is bigger than she can handle. Telling the whole truth to her parents requires more strength than she needed to make friends when she first came to Woodmere. By keeping secrets from her family, Autumn discovers she isn't protecting them or herself, but the men who haunt her past, present and future. Will she find the courage to tell her family and stop living with secrets or will she be Drowned by Fear?
Returning to Woodmere after Becca's high school graduation in California, Autumn discovers restoring friendships is more difficult than making them. In the small Minnesota town, where knowing everything is everyone's business, a surprisingly small amount of truth is actually known. When the past becomes the present, more than one life is in danger. Will Autumn gain Craig and Kenzie's trust in time, or will she be Taken in the Woods?

Just after her seventeenth birthday during winter break, Autumn and her sister receive an announcement from their parents. They are moving back to the Midwest, to a Minnesota town not even large enough to earn a dot on the map. Woodmere is where people have grown up together for generations. It is a town full of gossips and busybodies making sure secrets don't remain private for long. Memories from her stolen childhood are unlocked during what should have been a routine move. Autumn finds herself suddenly faced with a past she wishes could be forgotten again. A past filled with events she hasn't told anyone. The man she fears is now only hours away. In an attempt to hide, Autumn becomes the person she didn't know she could be. Finds the strength she didn't know she had. In Woodmere, Autumn discovers she isn't the only one with secrets.
A few years after MS (multiple sclerosis) walked into my life, I discovered I had also developed food allergies to gluten, dairy and soy. I had to learn to cook so I could eat because I quickly realized how little processed, ready to eat or restaurant food is available to someone afflicted with those three allergies. Unfortunately, many recipes I made or the allergen friendly food I bought tasted like cardboard, a kitchen sponge or just plain "healthy". I longed for the food I loved growing up but couldn't have anymore because it makes me very sick, like put me back in the hospital sick. So I set out on a mission: to make allergen friendly food that tastes good. Not just to my standards, but by my critics: my husband and son. I only want to cook one supper; so I learned how to cook food that was allergen free, but not flavor free. I want to share these recipes and the tricks I have learned so that it may help others afflicted with the same or similar ailments to enjoy eating again.
Simply Unique Crochet is a collection crochet patterns designed by Sarah Richards for Snoflake Stitchery. All eight patterns have been made for personal use by the designer and given away as gifts. While these items looked knitted, they are in fact 100% crocheted. In this book, the main stitch which gives this illusion is described with a brief tutorial. A link to a visual tutorial for the waistcoat stitch is also provided. A list of all stitches used along with the correlating abbreviations are listed along with the materials need to complete each pattern. Patterns included are for home decor, bags, hats and mittens. Happy Stitching!
Through the battles of darkness created by depression and anxiety came a creative way to survive and make the self-deprecation and hatred something real to fight against.
An increasing interest in children's lives has tested the ethical and practical limits of research. Rather than making tricky ethical decisions, transparent researchers tend to gloss over stories that do not fit with sanitized narratives. This book aims to fill this gap by making explicit the lived experiences of research with children.
