With three editions of Bourbon Mixology published, author Steve Akley wanted to expand beyond just signature bourbon cocktails from iconic bars. This time he wanted to take a look at themed drinks. Two categories that seemed like natural fits were coffee-themed and holiday-themed creations. The key to a great bourbon cocktail is to produce a drink which complements the flavor profile of the bourbon and doesn't mask it. After all, we're not talking about any old hooch here. Bourbon is the all-American spirit created and made in the United States of America. It truly is our contribution to the world of distilled spirits. Translated directly from the Native Hawaiian language, the phrase "pa'u hana" literally means "after work." In reality, pa'u hana means much more. It captures the spirit of friendship. A time when friends can unwind after work and share stories and interact with one another over food and drinks. Pa'u Hana, the story, tells the adventure of Rex Palakiko and Danny Bandera. Rex and Danny are coworkers and friends who share their thoughts, dreams and philosophies on life over a few cocktails at their favorite bar on Kaua'i each day after work. Over a pa'u hana discussion one day, Rex begins to come up with a plan to make a movie which would open up a world to him beyond the confines of island life. Reluctant to change, Danny struggles as he considers whether or not to join his friend on a journey which would take them from the beauty and safety of their jobs in Hawai'i to the challenge of navigating the movie business in Los Angeles. If Danny does join Rex, can they get a film made in Hollywood? Will their dreams come true? What impact will all of this have on their lives back in Kaua'i?
