Sue Lewis has won previous pamphlet awards and one of the many things that delights about her work is that each new collection pushes the boundaries of language and integrity further. The writing is lucid, precise, the metaphors are precise and fresh, but the effect is to take us within-to interior landscapes where there is not certainty but the constant liminality of life in process, the questions and doubts we contend with, the moments of compassion alongside the bittersweet ache for the lives that might have been, while tending to the life that is. Recognizing that a VEHICLE is a conveyance through which ideas are expressed and believing that INQUIRY is a piece of the investigative search for truth, these VEHICLES OF INQUIRY aim to transport you from your current site to a more authentic place where you might wish to BE. The images began as an art collection of oil paintings, mixed media collages, drawings, and one of a kind fabricated silver and gold jewelry pieces shared in solo gallery shows. A book seemed a natural transition for the series. The title for each art work is presented in the form of a question. It is the intention that the title drives the vehicle. Each is without a driver, inviting you to climb aboard, navigate the journey, and ponder your responses. To fully appreciate the discoveries on this path will depend upon your willingness to become fully engaged with each vehicle. On this journey the only luggage needed is a wandering, wondering spirit and an open, curious mind. Happy Travel!

My work is developed in series. Each series has its own connecting thread. Text is often an integrated part. Throughout the entire collection the unifying energy is that each piece has the following layers of response: * Visual impression including the image, media, and technique. * A personal response to the design aesthetic, * Awareness of a deeper level of meaning, * Contemplation of "What does this mean for me?" * The spiritual synergy that evolves with the piece. Whimsical Birds These sterling birds have metaphoric messages which upon first glance are light and playful. But beyond the first impression is encouragement for us to ponder. Each jewelry piece houses in a 14" x 14" x 1.25" acrylic home until brought out to be worn and to be enjoyed as a piece of wall art when not worn. The jewelry pieces range from 2" to 4" in width or height. A collection of 16"x 20" watercolors mirror the thoughts and images of the silver series.
