"Who is this, Petr?" one of the giant men asked as several men wheeled my cage into place in between him and one of the bearded women."The newest attraction...Kiernan." Petr informed as I backed away and buried my face in my knees."Seems young..." the giant commented as Petr entered my cage; I shrank away as he approached, to no avail; he backed me into a corner."Everyone seems young to you, August." the bearded lady commented with a chuckle as Petr grabbed me - making me cry out in fear. "Although...in this case...""He's ten." Petr replied as I cried, and he pulled out the salve."What's that?" August asked as Petr began vigorously rubbing the salve into my burned skin - causing me to cry even harder."Kiernan was burned in a stable fire recently. The man who sold him to me said this was to heal the burns...but I'm almost out." Petr explained before I slipped out of his grasp - kicking the jar out of his hands as I did so. "Foolish boy!" he shouted as I curled in on myself in the far corner."Petr." another man addressed sternly when Petr began to charge at me."Father." Petr greeted as he turned away from me."Is this the new curiosity?" the man asked as he neared the cage."Aye. He's a cripple...and recently deformed.""Bring him closer. I can't see him from here." the man ordered. I sobbed and tried to get away...but Petr was too strong...too swift; he easily grabbed me and dragged me out of the cage. "Stand up straight, boy."Reluctantly, I obeyed the order...allowing him to examine my twisted leg and scars."Let me see you walk." he ordered. I obeyed - limping once around the tent."Well?" Petr asked."We'll have him walk up to the platform...then attach him to the wheel." the man decided. "As for his clothing..." he added...before he pulled out a breech cloth. "Put straw in his cage, then start advertising.""What will I put on his sign?" Petr asked."What else?" his father replied cruelly. "Fyrlem."
I should have just kept my head down. Colin thought to himself as one of the men grabbed him from behind...and another grabbed his cane."I'm going to enjoy this!" the man called just before Colin felt an inner strength and remembrance of Liam's self-defense training."No...you're not." Colin promised before he kicked the man....where it hurts. The other loosened his grip...and regretted it when Colin head butted him."How did you...?" one of the boys asked in confusion as Colin began untying the boys...and restraining the kidnappers with the restraints they had used on the boys."My dad taught me." Colin explained just as he heard a limo stop at the curb."Sires! Are you alright?" a man asked."...Sires?" Colin asked in confusion."Yes." the other boy stated. "Allow us to introduce ourselves...I am Prince Joshua...and this is my older brother, Dwight.""I...I'm just going to...""Oh, no you don't." one of the men from the limo...clearly a bodyguard...said as he grabbed Colin's arm."You aren't going anywhere until we figure out how to repay you." Dwight insisted."B-but my dad needs my input on my sixteenth birthday celebration next week..."That'll do. Look for your invitation to the palace in the mail." Prince Joshua stated...before they left in the limo. All Colin could think on his walk back home was...Me and my big mouth.
He crumpled the note and pulled out his sword in readiness."Come out! Or are you a coward?" he asked. I furrowed my brows before I pulled out another parchment...attached it to an arrow...and aimed for the man's sword - knocking it from his hands - before I hid myself again. The man furiously charged at my second hiding spot...frustrated even more when he didn't find me. He grabbed the second note, and read: "'The wicked flee when no man persueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.'" The man practically roared in his annoyance...before I laughed menacingly...aiming another arrow and showing myself. "Y-you're under arrest...""I'd like to see you try; do you not notice where my arrow is aimed?" I asked. The man's eyes widened and he shook his head...fearfully. I smirked...before I let the third arrow fly...grazing his belt just enough that it allowed his trousers to fall.In his distraction, I hid in the foliage. To my surprise...the knight....abandoned his trousers...and fled."Th-thank you, Sir..." the woman - coming out of hiding - said gratefully as she looked around. I slowly revealed myself and gathered up the three arrows; the knight had taken the verses with him. "How can I ever thank you?""No need...thank God...not me. He saved you; I was merely the vessel He chose to use." I stated before I turned away."Wait! What...what should I call you?" she asked. I turned slightly to face her before...I told her what God placed on my heart: "The Shadow of the Forest."
