Dana Tucker Pennington returned to her childhood home in Georgia following the death of her husband. But she didn't expect to find Bret Kenyon living next door and now single. The man who broke her teenaged heart by marrying her best friend. Happiness seems possible for them despite their painful history when secrets from their shared past begin to surface. The first secret, which Bret has kept hidden since his daughter suffered a fall as a schoolgirl, is revealed when he is injured in an automobile accident. The murder of his ex-wife brings to light threads of criminal activity reaching back to Dana's deceased husband and her own daughter's supposed father. Dana and Bret decide the threats to the daughters they adore will only be neutralized when all secrets, including the existence of the girls's long-lost siblings, are finally brought into the open.
Sylvia Nickels' life changed in 2011 when her husband of almost fifty-three years died after a three year battle to come back from a major stroke. Time to get back to writing, if she was ever going to do so. Thanks to Kingsport Daily News Editors Pete Dykes and his son Steve, with the beginning of the next year came the fulfillment of a dream for Sylvia, a weekly newspaper column. Hours of poring over name possibilities, searching a dictionary and a thesaurus produced only names that sounded too cute, plain stupid or pretentious. None conveyed her mental vision for the column, some nostalgia, looking back at how 'things used to be.' Some of how she looks at the current way of the world. Some rants. Some raves. Maybe even an anecdote or two about family. So finally - Life Slices emerged. This volume collects sixty of Sylvia's Life Slices columns, first published in the Kingsport Daily News newspaper, written over a two year period.
