Author Tim Murphy looked under the hood of the first "Flannel John's Cookbooks for Guys" and decided to tune it up. He's added more recipes to the 2nd edition. This book was inspired by his grandfather, John Murphy Sr., who opened a Standard Oil Gas Station in the 1920s. The station was on the Chicago's west side at the start of Route 66. He dedicates this book to mechanics, collectors, restorers, gas jockeys, hobbyists, race fans and car guys everyhwhere.
Bacon. It truly is man candy. That salty, sweet, smoky, succulent, savory meat harvested from pigs. It's enough to convert a full-fledged vegan into a drooling carnivore. At one time it was a humble breakfast staple or one-third of a BLT. Bacon has evolved...as candy, dessert, appetizer, flavoring, main course and beyond. You can weave it, crumble it, coat it, shred it and...eat it. It's the culinary equivalent of Play Doh. From Chocolate Painted Bacon and California Clam Chowder to Bacon-Wrapped Dates, Great White North Bacon Soup and Hog Wild Rice this is THE book for the bacon fan. This book has become so popular in the Flannel John series it's now in its third edition adding still more bacon recipes to this ever-growing title. Indulge and enjoy.
Cooking a meal is truly a skill, but enhancing those flavors in just the right manner is an art. In this second expanded edition of "Flannel John's Dipped and Sauced Cookbook" author Tim Murphy adds dozens of additional recipes to the original classics.

These daring dishes are truly "Bowled Adventures." This is a book with something old, something new with borrowed ideas and pots of stew.
When you hear the term "mountain man" what comes to mind? Dan Haggerty as Grizzly Adams? Robert Redford as Jeremiah Johnson? Self-sufficient men living off the land filling those most basic needs of shelter, warmth and food. Yes, the food. That was the seed for this book and now this expanded third edition. I wanted to track down basic foods, country and frontier staples. Rustic grub and country recipes in all their satisfying simplicity like Hard Tack, Rhubarb Cake, Sour Dough and Corn Pone. That is what is presented here: older recipes, some with new twists, that go as far back as 150 years. This edition adds in foraged foods and home made jerky recipes. These meals were made by mountain men, homesteaders and settlers, country folk and even weekend warriors. Food is the connecting thread that binds cultures, generations, family and friends. For some it's gastronomic anthropology. I like to think of it simply as tradition. Passing the knowledge, the warmth and the feast on to whoever joins us at the table. Sharing a meal is after all, one of the best parts of life.
