5: Far NorthAfter leaving the mountains Tom Roach returns to Burrabooka and Terangi Downs for down time. 4: Body CountThe Ted Burns identity is forgone and our man returns to being Tom Roach. Roach finds himself in hospital after his beating at the hands of the Markellos gang. The gang is set up by law enforcement and arrests yield in dawn raids. For now Roach is safe from the gang's reach - but is he really?The Australian Federal Police now have him under their control in an 'off the books' capacity and his life complicates even further. Roach recovers on Terangie Station and then in Burrabooka but his peace is havocked when a crime gang send a message to Booka locals. A house is bombed and shots are fired and Roach is on the run again.The gang also plan an attack on Terangie Downs that is foiled with murderous consequences for the bad guys - but who really are the bad guys?Roach wins that battle and returns to Adelaide with instructions to drive the American hit team to their next mission site - the next execution is planned.He defaults the mission and then travels on his own. The Americans are not happy about and a second team of rouge mercenaries hunt for him. He hides out in the mountains where his survival and endurance is tested in the wild. There, for now he is safe. Booka Lingo My brother is a TBA - True Blue Aussie bloke with a broad Aussie accent. When he went to Disney Land Americans, so fascinated by his accent and word use, followed him around goading him to speak - he was more the attraction than Mickey Mouse! Occasionally I do stand-up story telling shows. At one show an English lady came up and said she loved the larrikin content but didn't understand my 'lingo'. So I thought it worthwhile to record our language - I listened to people and jotted down words and phrases in my note book, on the palm of my hand and on livestock waybill pads. There are nearly 700 items listed. The inspiration for this book came from servicemen and women who wrote their stories and poems during World War 11. The Khaki and Brown is a collection of these writings. Their language is my language and in a way this book is about keeping it alive. Burrabooka OUTBACK Australia is my fiction crime/action/adventure series and it is written in Booka Lingo. Have you ever been to Burrabooka? Good luck trying to find it. Locally the Burrabooka community is rocked by the police raids and subsequent arrests of both a local pastoralist worker and a shearer - their drug lab and livestock thieving crimes divide the district and anger leads to the opening of 'never to be healed' wounds. Three thousands kilometres to the north Ted Burns had his own issues to deal with. As Darcy Stapleton's girlfriend, Carly Maidment, slept in a charter boat cabin, the American Vietnam vet and mission driver, Trent Davis and Burns slept in swags with mosquito nets on the deck. This Coral Sea voyage would smuggle the four American hitmen and their gear onto the Australian mainland to start their missions - execute four Australian criminals. Burns and Maidment provide the Intel for the first hit - in Manly, a Sydney suburb - they pave the way for the hitmen to complete the first mission by eliminating a lowlife drug dealer who had previously beaten a girl to mental incapacity. But the mission has drawbacks - things go wrong. The four Americans then blend into Australian society with orders to regroup for the next hit. Burns questions the Rich Man's Justice theory and continually faces the options of running or staying with the missions. In his downtime he finds romance with divorcee nurse Sally North and then friendship with two Swedish backpackers. One of the girls is raped and beaten by the 'Silver Citroen Gang'. After the attack Burns, Sally North and the victim, Anna, find refuge on Terangi Downs. Then after fleeing from a car accident and leaving Sally North things complicate when Burns witnesses a hit on one of Anna's attackers. Burns realises that there is another American team operating in Australia. The body count starts and Burns confronts the Citroen gang boss. Disastrous consequences follow and the plot thickens. While Australian organised crime gangs are puzzled by events Australian and American law enforcement do know what is happening and want a piece of the action. Ted Burns is a person of interest and right in the middle of all of it!
