Tomberg speaks openly and honestly about meditation, the various stages of consciousness (imagination, inspiration, and intuition), the "guardian of the threshold," and the esoteric trials one encounters along the way. Tomberg (1900-1973) ses av många som Rudolf Steiners missförstådde och bortglömde efterträdare. Han uteslöts ur Antroposofiska Sällskapet 1935, tio år efter Steiners död. Han har blivit alltmer aktuell i våra dagar för att överbrygga och förstå konflikten mellan aristoteliker och platoniker. För ett närmande mellan östliga och västliga kristna kyrkor och en väg ut ur dessas dogmatism och materialism. Där står hans landsmän Fjodor Dostojevskij och Vladimir Solovjov honom nära.Valentin Tombergs stora verk Christ and Sophia, om Gamla och Nya Testamentet samt Apokalypsen, finns ännu inte översatt till svenska. Inte heller hans Meditations on the Tarot, som publicerades 1972 strax innan han dog.
